Today, CAVHCS proudly recognizes Dr. Mae Anderson Carlisle for an extraordinary 50 years of service to Veterans.
Dr. Carlisle began her journey at Tuskegee on May 17, 1976, as a Graduate Nurse Technician on Ward 3A-2 while awaiting her nursing boards after earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Tuskegee University, then Tuskegee Institute. Over the next five decades, she continued advancing her education and career, earning a master’s degree in Adult Health Nursing, a post-master’s degree in advanced practice nursing with an emphasis in primary care nurse practitioner studies, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
With experience spanning intensive care, oncology, emergency medicine, and primary care, Dr. Carlisle has spent the last 27 years serving as a nurse practitioner in Tuskegee, providing compassionate, high-quality care to Veterans.
Although encouraged not to enlist in the military by family members who served, including her father, Ulysses Dudley, and uncle, Brooker T. Anderson Jr., Dr. Carlisle found another way to serve those who protected our nation through her work with VHA.
Today, Dr. Carlisle was surprised by staff and family members during a special recognition event honoring her remarkable milestone and decades of dedicated service to Veterans.
Dr. Carlisle remains passionate about ensuring Veterans receive exceptional care and access to services. Her dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment continue to leave a lasting impact on countless Veterans, families, and colleagues across CAVHCS.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Carlisle on 50 years of remarkable service and dedication to Veterans.
