Congratulations to Tom Butler, the recipient of the 2026 Hubert H. Humphrey Award. The award was presented this weekend in Los Angeles, California at the APhA Annual Convention.

The Humphrey Award was established in 1978 to recognize APhA members who have made major contributions in government or legislative service. Tom W. Butler, of Huntsville, AL, has done just that, and built a lifelong career in pharmacy and public service. A graduate of the University of Alabama and Auburn University, he practiced in community and hospital settings and briefly owned his own pharmacy. Butler served 12 years in the Alabama House and later in the Senate, championing healthcare, veterans’ services, school funding, and AED access in public schools. He has held numerous board and community leadership roles and received many honors, including induction into the Alabama Pharmacy Hall of Fame.

Congratulations again on this amazing achievement!

We had a great time today visiting both schools of pharmacy. First we were in Auburn for the joint NCPA APhA chapter meeting as Bobby Giles spoke to the groups. Then a trip to Birmingham, where Louise Jones and Bobby spoke to the NCPA APhA chapters at Samford. We appreciate both invitations and look forward to seeing you all at the APA Legislative Lunch on April 1!

The Alabama Department of Insurance is taking action! The PBM Compliance Division has published actions against two PBMs. One taken in October against Drexi and the other this week against Express Scripts.
We appreciate the Department for enforcing last year’s legislation. This wouldn’t happen without our members’ participation by filing complaints. Keep up the good work.

Over 200 Alabama pharmacies joined APA in calling on PEEHIP to address unsustainable Humana reimbursement rates for retired employees’ Medicare drug coverage. 💪
The letter has been sent, and the message is clear: urgent action is needed.
