What Happens During a GI Endoscopy?
If your doctor has recommended an endoscopy, you might be wondering what to expect. Here’s a quick overview:
✔️ You’ll receive sedation to help you relax and stay comfortable
✔️ A thin, flexible tube with a camera (endoscope) is gently guided through the mouth
✔️ Your provider examines the esophagus, stomach, and upper small intestine
✔️ If needed, small tissue samples (biopsies) can be taken for further evaluation
The procedure is typically quick, minimally invasive, and most patients go home the same day.

If you are a physician, please note that any properly trained and licensed board certified/board eligible surgeon may apply for privileges at Jackson Surgery Center.
