Meals On Wheels Montgomery Al Metro Area provides 450 seniors with a hot meal every weekday!

This month celebrates National Senior Independence Month! Greater independence is one of the top reasons we think home care can service seniors better than a care facility. The individualized care allows for the provider to work one on one with the senior, giving them more time to guide the patient through day to day tasks rather than doing everything for them. Keeping our clients in a place where they are comfortable and already used to living allows for them to continue their lives with very little interference in their routines. -Work together with your elderly loved ones to create scrapbooks with photos and memories.
-Record your loved one while they tell stories or talk about favorite memories and download them so you have a digital copy to keep forever
-Create a book of compiled stored and memories and get it bound so that you can order as many copies as you would like.
-Take a video of you interviewing or talking with your elderly loved ones and make a short movie of the clips.

Help to raise senior citizen awareness of common scams. Scammers often target seniors because they are trusting and have money. Talk with the seniors in your life about taking safety precautions such as not answering the phone unless you recognize the name or number, and not responding to random texts or emails. Even checks can be tampered with, so encourage seniors to look over their account regularly and contact their bank if there has been any suspicious activity.

With the holidays behind us and cold months still ahead, seasonal depression can be a very real struggle for many people. Here are some things you can do to help combat the sadness you may be feeling this time of year.

1. If you live in a place with especially dark and gloomy winters a light therapy lamp can be very beneficial for your body and mind.
2. Lean into it! Make everything as cozy as possible! Light candles, wear bathrobes, take hot baths. You may actually find you enjoy the cold winter months!
3. Bundle up and get outside! Just because it's cold doesn't mean you can’t still take short walks. The fresh air will definitely help your mood!
4. See friends and family! Having social events and get togethers to look forward to will help keep you from getting lonely.
