The holidays bring joy, family, and—of course—new and unfamiliar foods. But for many kids, unfamiliar meals can feel overwhelming. 🍽️

At The Lark Center, we work on these skills in a fun and supportive environment, and help kids explore new foods with curiosity and confidence. This week, we’re hosting a practice Thanksgiving meal where kids can touch, smell, and play with holiday foods to build comfort—no pressure, just discovery!

How You Can Help at Home: Before the big day, try introducing your child to holiday dishes in a playful, non-judgmental way. Think finger-painting with mashed potatoes, building veggie “sculptures,” or even just touching and smelling new foods. This helps kids feel safe and curious instead of pressured.

And Remember! It’s completely OKAY if your child prefers their favorite foods on the holiday itself. Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, or Christmas can already be overwhelming with all the people, sounds, and activity—sticking to comfort foods is a way for them to stay regulated.

If you’d like to sign your child up to explore these skills at The Lark Center, now’s the perfect time! Let’s make this holiday season joyful, connected, and a little less stressful.
