We are pleased to introduce Abygail Frankel, Executive Director at our Susan Bailis community. Abygail brings over a decade of leadership experience in assisted living, skilled nursing, and senior services to the team. She studied Gerontology and Long-Term Care Administration, grounding her career in both the science and soul of senior care.

Abygail’s passion for older adults is not something she fell into, it is who she is. She is deeply driven by the belief that elders deserve to be honored with respect, dignity, joy, and purpose, and she brings that conviction into every aspect of her leadership. Known for her magnetic energy, relationship-driven style, and strong business instincts, she leads with equal parts heart and strategy – building culture, inspiring teams, driving occupancy, and creating communities people are proud to call home.

We are delighted to welcome Shannon Fenerjian, Divisional Director of Resident Care.

Shannon is a seasoned resident care and compliance leader with more than 15 years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse and Certified Dementia Practitioner. She has a demonstrated history of elevating quality and regulatory performance across assisted living, memory care, and post-acute care settings. Throughout her career, Shannon has been recognized for fostering positive team cultures, strengthening clinical and compliance standards, and guiding multi-site senior living organizations through evolving regulatory and operational demands.

Shannon’s focus is on delivering safe, compassionate, and resident-centered care across every community she supports, and we are very pleased to have her join our team!

The HKAL team had a wonderful and meaningful experience at the Catholic Charities in Brockton yesterday. They joined dozens of other volunteers to distribute turkeys and other donated goods to local families, seeing firsthand how much these holiday resources mean to families preparing for Thanksgiving.

The atmosphere was filled with gratitude, teamwork, and a strong spirit of giving. Charlene Borthwick led the HKAL team and gave a heartfelt thank you to the large group of regional/home office and site volunteers.

Several of our HKAL communities already feature a Veterans Wall, and over the past few months, we’ve been working to bring this meaningful tribute to all HKAL communities. These walls honor veterans as a whole, as well as our residents who have served our country. The displays look wonderful and, on this Veterans Day, serve as a proud reminder of the courage, dedication, and service of our veterans. Thank you!

She brings enthusiasm, warmth, and motivating energy to every interaction — always driven by a sense of urgency, initiative, and a competitive spirit to deliver impactful results through collaboration and teamwork.

Suzana’s passion for serving older adults began early in life, inspired by the years her grandmother lived with her family. That deeply personal connection continues to guide her mission: helping seniors and their families discover communities rooted in care, compassion, and dignity.

Outside of her professional life, Suzana enjoys walking and running, exploring new travel destinations, and nurturing her garden. Her greatest joy, however, is spending time with her beloved granddaughter.

We are pleased to welcome Marc Cohen to the regional team supporting our HKAL communities. Marc brings with him a deep understanding of the privilege and responsibility that comes with being welcomed into our residents’ homes each day.

Marc has nearly 20 years of experience as an Executive Director in senior living communities ranging in size from 62 to 281 apartments with for-profit, not for profit, nationwide, regional, and family-owned organizations. He also serves as a Boot Camp Trainer for the Massachusetts Assisted Living Association (Mass-ALA). Prior to entering the senior living field, Marc held a range of management positions in area hospitals and other health care provider organizations for more than two decades.

Marc received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in Management and Planning from Boston University. He also earned a Ph.D. in Health Planning, Policy, and Administration from the Heller School at Brandeis University.

Outside of work, Marc enjoys road cycling and has participated in fundraising rides sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association, Best Buddies, and the American Diabetes Association, among others.

From working alongside civil engineers, architects, State Police, and environmental consultants to supporting individuals with cognitive memory loss and, most recently, residents in independent and assisted living communities, every role has been both meaningful and rewarding.
Cheryl’s personal journey caring for her father through his battle with dementia gave her firsthand insight into the struggles and successes. It also strengthened her commitment to improving the lives of those in similar situations.
At the heart of Cheryl’s leadership philosophy is a customer-first culture, driven by hiring and developing highly skilled, engaged employees. Cheryl leads by example, values integrity, and believes in treating people the way she wishes to be treated, with kindness, honesty, and dignity.
