A little about me...

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 10 years ago. The chronic fatigue and pain was so debilitating it affected my work and social life. A fibromyalgia specialist suggested I try yoga to ease my symptoms. So I started practicing yoga in 2003 on a weekly basis. Within a few months, I saw my symptoms diminish dramatically. Recently I decided I wanted to share my experience with others through teaching and became a certified yoga instructor in August of 2009. Needless to say, yoga has been a saving grace for me (no pun intended!) It has boosted my energy, helped me gain strength and reduced my stress; thus keeping my fibromyalgia at bay. For those of you who suffer from this chronic illness and other auto immune diseases such as lupus and arthritis, I suggest you give yoga a try. The right approach for you…

I will design a program for you that will start with simple stretching and breathing techniques for mental clarity and relaxation. Then we will work our way towards asanas (poses) to help your strength and flexibility. And remember, yoga is not a competition; you can always pull back once you have reached your edge. Hatha style classes blend breath work, mindfulness, meditation, and guided imagery, with stretching and strengthening. A Hatha Yoga class fosters an understanding between breath and movement. A typical class will challenge you in a variety of ways depending on your own personal level of fitness, connection to your inner self, and ability to balance—physically and mentally.

Over 44 million men and women in the United States now have low bone density or brittle bone disease called osteoporosis according to the national osteoporosis foundation. For these individuals, a slip or fall, could result in a painful bone fracture.�To protect bone health, a mix of balance, weight-bearing and strengthening exercises can help.�Join me as I take you through a series of yoga poses and exercises designed to help strengthen bones and create flexibility. Exercises will include the use of chairs, blocks, and straps to help sustain and improve body alignment.
