Temperatures in Beaufort are forecast to dip below freezing with an expected low around 28 degrees Jan. 18 and a low of 21 Jan. 19.

Sea Island Presbyterian Church at 81 Lady’s Island Drive will be open 5:30 p.m. Jan. 19 until 8 a.m. Jan. 21 but may remain open the evening of Jan. 22, depending on weather conditions. The makeshift shelter will offer a warm space, food and showers to families and individuals.

In Bluffton, the MLK Observance Committee will host a warming center at the Rotary Community Center. The community center in Oscar Frazier Park will open from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. Jan. 19, 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. Jan. 20 and 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. Jan. 21.

The Bluffton warming shelter is seeking volunteers and donations, including sleeping bags, cold-weather clothing and food items. Volunteers can contact organizers Bridgette Frazier at 843-816-9671 and Aaron Jenkins at 843-816-8936.

Sea Island Presbyterian Church does not currently need volunteers or supplies for the warming shelter.

Beaufort County officials ask that residents check on elderly neighbors and families with young children, and contact local first responders with any safety concerns.

We are pleased to announce that Natassia Allen, MBA is our new Chief Operations Officer.

Natassia began her work with BJHCHS in 2017. She is passionate about public health and community health centers and has been recognized with the 2022 Geiger Gibson Emerging Leader Award and 2023 Becker's Health "Healthcare Leader to Know."

Natassia has more than 15 years of healthcare leadership and enjoys being a mentor through many professional organizations to include the American College of Healthcare Executives and the National Association of Health Services Executives.

We are pleased to announce Michelle Payseur, SHRM-SCP, MHRM as our newly appointed Director of Human Resources.

Michelle is a recent resident to the Beaufort County area. Prior to moving to South Carolina, she resided in the Northern suburbs of Chicago, Illinois.

Michelle has over twenty years of Human Resources Leadership experience. Throughout her career, she has honed her HR skills in the military defense, banking, manufacturing, engineering, and hospitality industries.

She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources from DePaul University, her Master’s Degree in Human Resources with Distinction from Keller Graduate School of Management and her Human Resources Senior Professional certifications from the Society of Human Resources Management. She was also the past Director of Member Learning Events and the past Director of Inclusion and Diversity in her local SHRM chapter in Northern Illinois.
