How do you store your fruit? I’m a big believer in this process:
1. Wash it all. I have a recipe for nontoxic fruit & veggie wash that is easy to use, inexpensive, and safe. Bonus: it helps your fruit stay fresh longer! Lmk if you need it! I get laughed at at the kitchen because I even wash things like pineapple. Those things have been shipped across the country in dirty trucks and stored in warehouses, people. Ew.
2. Let it dry. You can use paper towels on the counter or whatever method lets the fruit dry. This is especially important for berries!
3. Put it in a sealed container. Do not, under any circumstances, store fruit in the ridiculous plastic basket-type containers they came in from the store.
This method is tried and true in my house because:
1. Kids and adults are much.more.likely. to EAT fresh fruit if they don’t have to wash it first. And there is no point to buying fruit if it won’t get into bodies. In fact, the best way is to preslice the strawberries and make little mason jars of mixed fruits they can grab in a rush.
2. Fruit lasts longer. The dumb boxes you toss in the recycling would let the fruit dry out/absorb other smells from your fridge. No one is going to eat a strawberry that looks like it was left outside all winter or tastes like yesterday’s leftovers. Refer to number 1.
