Today is World Lupus Day!

Lupus is a complex autoimmune disease that touches every person differently. For many, it means living with daily challenges like chronic pain, overwhelming fatigue, and symptoms that aren’t always visible to others.

An estimated 1.5 million people in the U.S. are living with lupus, showing incredible strength as they navigate the unknowns of this condition. While there is no cure yet, ongoing research and treatment options continue to bring hope and help individuals manage their symptoms.

Today, and every day, Aveanna stands with those living with lupus—raising awareness, offering support, and honoring their resilience.

May is ALS Awareness Month, an important moment to spread awareness for the disease, support those living with it, and advocate for further research.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly referred to as ALS, is a progressive disease that affects the brain's connection with the body's muscles, leading to the inability to walk, speak, and eat over time. Diagnosis for ALS can take months or even years, and the exact cause is unknown. According to the ALS Association, every 90 minutes, someone is diagnosed with ALS and someone passes away from it.

Nurse Zach has been working with Aveanna patient Cam for the past three years. During that time, he’s come to know Cam incredibly well — his routines, his preferences, and what brings him comfort and joy. From the start of their care journey, this bond helped build a trusting and meaningful relationship.

Cam has overcome an extraordinary amount of adversity in his life. He was born with Congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) and lives with cerebral palsy. Because of Cam’s diagnoses, effective communication and attentive care are critical. Zach communicates with Cam in a way that no one else can, ensuring his needs are understood, anticipated, and met.

This Nurses Week, we share our gratitude for nurses like Zach for their dedication, attentiveness, and the high standard of care they provide every single day to our most complex patients. Thank you for all you do!
