5-year outcome of a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) according to the CDC:

-22% Passed Away
-30% Situation Worsened
-22% Stay the Same after Accident
-26% Improved
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A person with a history of multiple or repeated mild TBI’s or concussions may experience a longer recovery or more severe symptoms. Repeated injuries can lead to ongoing problems with concentration, memory or headaches as well as physical problems, such as keeping one’s balance.### Getting a proper diagnosis after you have been in an accident is key to preventing repeated injuries and to starting treatment promptly. If you or a client have been in an accident, contact TBD USA for a non-bias diagnosis!

*Data are US population estimates based on the TBIMS National Database. Data refer to people 16 years of age or older who received inpatient rehabilitation services for a primary diagnosis of a TBI.*

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month! TBD SoCal has put together these quick tips to help you stay safe on the road! Remember, Distracted Driving can be a lot more than texting while driving!

According to a Forbes article earlier this year, 3,000 US Citizens pass away each year due to Distracted Driving, which accommodates between 8-9% of all US fatal accidents. In addition, over 500 cyclists and pedestrians in the US per year are killed by Distracted Driving. In 2020 alone, over 300,000 injuries in the US can be attributed to Distracted Driving.

If you or a client have been in an accident, contact TBD SoCal for immediate testing!

Videonystagmography (iVNG) is a test used to track uncontrollable eye movement. The nystagmus (eye movements) can be side-to-side, up-and-down, or a circular pattern. During the test a pair of goggles with a camera inside record and track eye movements in three main parts:
Ocular Motility:
The technician will be looking for any slowness or inaccuracies in the ability to follow visual targets. This may indicate a central or neurological problem, or possibly a problem in the pathway connecting the vestibular system to the brain.

Optokinetic Nystagmus:
Like the ocular mobility tests, the technician will be looking for any slowness or inaccuracies in their ability to follow visual targets. This may indicate a central or neurological problem, or possibly a problem in the pathway connecting the vestibular system to the brain.

Positional Nystagmus:
This test is looking at their inner ear system and the condition of the endolymph fluid in their semi-circular canals. The technician is verifying that small calcium carbonate particles called otoconia are not suspended in the fluid and causing a disturbance to the flow of the fluid.
