Rachel Milstead, PA-C, served as Sarah Gobles’ student mentor in the ATEP at DePauw University from 2006–2008. But her impact reached far beyond that title. Just one year ahead, Rachel became not only a trusted mentor, but a steady source of support, guidance, and friendship during some of the most formative years of Sarah’s journey.

She was a listening ear through the challenges of balancing life as both a student-athlete and athletic training student, always offering encouragement, perspective, and reassurance. Whether it was breaking down difficult class material, helping prepare for exams, or spending extra time mastering taping techniques, Rachel consistently showed patience, dedication, and a genuine investment in Sarah’s growth.

More than just teaching skills, Rachel helped build confidence in Sarah, instilling the work ethic, compassion, and resilience that define strong athletic trainers. The foundation she helped create continues to carry forward, shaping the way Sarah approaches patient care and mentorship today.

As Sarah reflects, she would not be the athletic trainer she is today without Rachel’s guidance and unwavering support during her undergraduate years. A true example of the lasting impact a mentor can have.
