: Dr. Sonia Sehgal, a UCI Health geriatrician, spoke with Voice of OC about Medicare as a costly health insurance option for older adults as their population rises.
“To age is very expensive. We know that Medicare, which is the primary insurer for people over 65, doesn’t cover very basic things. For example, hearing aids and dental care are not covered and are often very expensive out of pocket.” Check out our link in bio for more info.

We are proud to announce Lisa Gibbs, MD has been named Chair of the UCI Department of Family Medicine at UC Irvine School of Medicine!

Dr. Gibbs has served as interim chair since 2023 and brings decades of leadership in geriatric and family medicine. As the Ronald Reagan Endowed Chair of Geriatric Medicine, she has transformed clinical care, advanced research, and strengthened community partnerships.

Her visionary work has:
✅ Grown UC Irvine’s Division of Geriatric Medicine to 12 board-certified faculty
✅ Expanded senior care with new clinical sites
✅ Helped UCI Health earn Age-Friendly Health System designation
✅ Spearheaded multi-institutional collaborations like CAGI
✅ Elevated care through data-driven, value-based models
✅ Led research initiatives with major federal and foundation support
✅ Published widely in peer-reviewed journals and presented nationally

As she steps into this new leadership role, Dr. Gibbs remains deeply committed to advancing geriatric medicine and championing innovative, compassionate care for aging populations.
