Bentlee’s helmet didn’t just protect his head—it saved his life.

It was supposed to be a quick, 5-minute test drive on a bike to make sure it still worked. Shane Lyons and his son Bentlee hopped on a motorcycle and drove to the stop sign down the road. They turned around and were about to ride back into the driveway. That’s when the crash happened.

The bike they were on collided with a tractor-trailer and dragged them down the highway outside their home.

Thanks to the Providence Head Injury Prevention Program, Bentlee knew to gear up before a quick ride that turned into a life-threatening crash.

Today, medical care isn’t something that Jamal and his family worry about.

For Jamal and his wife, who moved to Washington in 2021, Medicaid (also known as Medi-Cal in California) was a lifeline.

After his restaurant job in 2024 didn’t provide insurance coverage, and his wife required extra care during her pregnancy, Medicaid stepped in to offer the support they needed. Health care professionals were there to assist the family in securing pregnancy coverage and enrolling their child in Medicaid, ensuring they continue to receive the care they deserve as they prepared for their second pregnancy.

Exciting news for our community! Today, the Orange Police Department showcased their new Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at St. Joseph Hospital. We recently contributed $50k to the Orange Police Foundation to support the installation of AEDs in roughly 25 police units—half of the fleet. These life-saving devices will undoubtedly make a significant impact on our community's health. The OP Foundation is actively seeking additional funding to equip the rest of the fleet.
