Dr. Loudon is a pediatric neurosurgeon in Orange County, California specializing in the treatment of children’s brain and spine disorders, including brain tumors, hydrocephalus, and Arnold-Chiari malformation. Dr. Loudon received his medical degree from University of Texas at Houston and began his graduate research at the Experimental Immunology Branch at the National Institutes of Health in Bethe
sda, Maryland. Dr. Loudon completed his general surgery internship and his general neurosurgical residency training at the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) and his post-doctoral fellowship training at The Massey Cancer Institute at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Loudon is fellowship trained in pediatric neurosurgery having completed his fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania/Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). He also completed fellowships in minimally invasive neurosurgery in Sydney, Australia, and Gamma Knife Radiosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Loudon's has clinical expertise in brain tumors and concurrently pursues basic science research into the biology of cancer, as well as the study of novel anti-cancer treatment strategies. He works closely with the CHOC Neuroscience and CHOC Cancer Institute in the development of the brain tumor program. He has published over 35 peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters concerned with the genetics and biology of cancer, stem cell biology and cancer stem cells. He additionally focuses his clinical expertise on minimally invasive surgical strategies, having acquired significant clinical proficiency in computer-assisted stereotactic navigation surgery, endoscopic surgery and non-invasive Gamma Knife Stereotactic Radiosurgery. Dr. Loudon is also the co-founder, and acting medical director of the Integrative and Complimentary Medicine Program initiated at CHOC with his wife, Ruth McCarty, a formally trained Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner. in Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine and went on to do a clinical Internship in Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China. Ruth is the Clinical Director of the program and has inpatient hospital privileges at both CHOC in Orange and CHOC at Mission. The program sponsors multiple clinical trials comparing the efficacy and safety of Alternative Medicine with standard Western Medicine and represents one of the most mainstreamed programs in any Children's Hospital in America.
