Kym Dekeyrel was born with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a degenerative eye disease, and lost her sight entirely eight years ago. In those dark times, she felt truly lost—until her husband introduced her to CrossFit. From that first day, the CrossFit community welcomed her, celebrating her strengths rather than focusing on her limitations. Poor vision can significantly impact a child's learning and development in several ways:

1. **Reading Difficulties**: slower learning & lower academic performance

2. **Attention & Concentration**: shorter attention spans & reduced concentration in the classroom

3. **Eye Strain and Fatigue**: uncomfortable for children to engage in prolonged reading or writing tasks

4. **Behavioral Issues**: result of frustration or inability to see clearly, which can be misinterpreted as attention deficit disorders or other behavioral problem

5. **Learning Delays**: Visual processing problems affecting academic performance

Early detection and treatment of vision problems are crucial to minimize these impacts and support children's educational and developmental needs. Regular eye exams and appropriate corrective measures, like glasses or contact lenses, can help ensure children have the visual ability to succeed in school.
