To verify the direct relationship between obesity and osteoarthritis, the paper by Shahzadi et al. (2019) conducts a cross-sectional study of obese people with a Body Mass Index of more than 35 who were referred for bariatric surgery.

The results from the study ‘Prevalence of Joint Pain And Osteoarthritis in Obese Patients’ show that there is a direct correlation between age obesity and osteoarthritis. It also claims that
obesity increases the complications in knee replacement therapy.

According to WHO, 1.4 billion adults around the world are overweight and more than 200 million men and 300 million women are obese.

Obesity increases the risk of developing cardiovascular events and conditions like OA, which is linked to high metabolic and inflammatory environments.

According to Heller et al. (2022), the WOMAC score has shown that after embolization treatment for knee OA, there is a significant reduction in WOMAC scores and pain scores as early as 1 day after the procedure, with a clinical success rate of 80% to 86.3% at 6 months.
