A this or that below from Richard! ⬇️

❓️Manual Therapy or Therapeutic Exercise? "Manual Therapy! Because it "tenderizes the beef" just the way we like it—perfectly prepping the tissues for the exercise program to come! 💪We love an efficient, hands-on approach to get things moving!"

❓️ What's the funniest (or most bizarre) injury story you've ever heard? "It has to be the one about the patient who sustained bilateral open comminuted forearm fractures from broadsiding a cow at 70 MPH on a dirt bike. 🤯Fatal to the cow, but the cow got the last word, managing to transmit E. coli to the patient! The patient survived, thrived after months of PT and one extra surgery, and now has a heck of a story.

Moral of it all: DHPT is here for the minor aches, the major breaks, and even the ones that require a deep dive into zoonotic disease protocols. 🐮

As we continue to celebrate PT Month, we want to highlight the dedication of our PT & DN Certified therapist, Lisa. Her approach? Empowering the patient ⬇️

❓️How do you motivate a patient who is having a tough time or has lost hope? "I listen to them and let them talk about whatever they want. Being an active listener is a good way to figure out what words or actions they need for encouragement. This focused, individualized care leads to amazing outcomes!"

❓️What's your most memorable success stories involving patients? "I've had patients who were able to avoid major surgery simply by becoming active participants and working hard in therapy."

At Desert Hand and Physical Therapy, your goals are our priority. 🎉

❓️ What's the funniest or most bizarre injury story you've heard? 🤔 "I once treated a patient with scars from a legitimate shark attack! But his new injury? He was randomly attacked by a mockingbird, fell, and shattered his elbow. Sometimes, the most unexpected things happen!" 🦈🐦

❓️This or That: Manual Therapy or Therapeutic Exercise? "It depends on the pathology, but I always enjoy when a manual treatment significantly helps a patient. Seeing a significant improvement after just one session is incredibly rewarding."

Thanks, Troy, for being so dedicated to every patient who walks through our doors!

PT Month Spotlight: Joy is our amazing West Valley PT!

❓️ What's the funniest or most bizarre injury story you've heard? "I've seen it all! 🤯 In physical therapy, you hear some truly unbelievable stories. Between the countless (and often hilarious) tales from Rural Alabama home health and the amazing success stories right here in Arizona, our therapists have a mental highlight reel of the funniest or most bizarre injury stories you can imagine. (Trust me, I have enough material for a sitcom!) 🤪"

❓️Can you tell us about your most memorable success story with a patient? 🎉 "I am incredibly proud of a young workers' compensation patient who came to us after a serious brachial plexus injury requiring nerve transfers. He worked relentlessly to regain function in his arm—and achieved phenomenal results! His hard work and recovery even earned him an award from the Arizona Industrial Commission (ICA). That's the power of perseverance!🌟"

❓️What is your most successful or memorable moment as a therapist? 🌟"One of the most memorable patients remains a gentleman who suffered a severe injury from a table saw, cutting through the middle of his hand. After facing 11 surgeries, multiple fractures, and complex tendon injuries, he rehabbed to the point where he was able to return to his job—and continue safely using a saw!"

Talk about a powerful comeback!

❓️How do you motivate your patients through PT Challenges? 🌟 "Sometimes motivation is hard, but I try to highlight the little things and functional gains over numbers. Learning what the patient's specific goals are is the most important part."

Going up and down stairs with a walker after surgery can seem daunting. We've put together a simple how-to that you can use to help manage the stairs safely.

Going Up ⬆️
1. Place your walker sideways with the opening towards you. Firmly grasp the stair rail with one hand and your walker with the other.
2. The walker's legs should be against the stair riser with all 4 legs in contact with the stairs. Step up with the non-surgical leg and follow with the surgical leg until both are on the same step

Going Down ⬇️
Repeat Step 1 of walking upstairs, then step down with the surgical leg and follow with the non-surgical leg.

It's important not to attempt stairs until released by your surgeon. If you need pre or post-surgical care, we're here to help.

Have you ever been provided or bought a splint online or in the drug store? We all have different hand shapes and sizes - so shouldn't our hand splints?
