Strep throat (streptococcal pharyngitis) is a bacterial infection that causes a sore throat and other symptoms. 🤒
Symptoms include:
• Fever
• Chills
• Red, sore throat with white patches
• Pain when swallowing
• Swollen, tender neck glands
• General ill feeling
Symptoms usually appear 2–5 days after exposure and can be mild or severe. Strep throat is most common in children ages 5–15, but anyone can get it.
It's spread by person-to-person contact with fluids from the nose or saliva, or by touching an infected surface and then transferring the bacteria to the nose or mouth by hand.

Strep throat is diagnosed with a rapid strep test. Treatment is a full course of antibiotics, typically amoxicillin. 💊

If your child is experiencing any of these symptoms, Mobile Mendy can diagnose and treat as soon as possible. Book an appointment at www.mobilemendy.com or call 602-769-1137.

Ear Infections are common in young children. Frequently, ear infections follow an upper respiratory infection, as fluid and inflammation build up in the middle ear, creating an infection.

Infants and young children have shorter and more horizontal Eustachian tubes, making it easier for bacteria to enter the middle ear.

Signs and symptoms that your child may have an ear infection include:

Ear pain or pulling at the ear.
Difficulty sleeping, especially lying down.
Fluid drainage from the ear.
Trouble hearing.
Fever (sometimes)

Treatment of ear infections include antibiotics, warm compress for pain relief, and pain relievers such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen.

Influenza (Flu) is spreading this time of year & can result in mild to severe illness in children. Flu virus spreads mainly through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. It spread by touching contaminated surfaces or objects.

Symptoms can include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, fatigue, and sometimes vomiting or diarrhea. In severe cases, Flu can cause pneumonia.

Young children, pregnant women, elderly, & people with underlying health conditions are at higher risk of serious complications, such as pneumonia.

Prevention: Thorough hand washing, cover coughs-sneezes, & avoid contact with sick individuals.

Eating a well-balanced diet & taking multi-vitamin, or vitamins C, D, & Zinc, may improve immune system.

Seek medical attention if your child shows symptoms, especially if they have an underlying health condition. Antiviral meds may be prescribed to reduce severity & duration.

You can schedule an in-home house call for pediatric care. I can evaluate your child’s symptoms & provide treatment with meds & IV fluids for hydration. This can help your child feel better quickly!

Pleas schedule an in-person house call or telemedicine appointment for pediatric care www.mobilemendy.com

01/02/2024

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a common virus that can cause respiratory infections, especially in young children. Here are the symptoms and general management strategies for RSV:

Symptoms:

Coughing and Sneezing:
RSV often starts with cold-like symptoms, including a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, and coughing.
Fever:
Many children with RSV develop a fever, which can range from mild to moderate.
Wheezing:
Wheezing and difficulty breathing are common, particularly in infants and young children.
Irritability:
Infants and young children with RSV may become irritable and have trouble sleeping.
Decreased Appetite:
Children infected with RSV may eat less than usual.
Breathing Difficulties:
In severe cases, RSV can lead to bronchiolitis or pneumonia, causing more significant breathing difficulties.
Management:

Rest and Hydration:
Ensure the child gets plenty of rest and stays well-hydrated. Offer fluids frequently, especially if there is a fever.
Use of Humidifiers:
Humidifiers can add moisture to the air, which may help relieve congestion and make breathing more comfortable.
Frequent Handwashing:
RSV is highly contagious. Practice good hand hygiene to prevent its spread, especially during the cold and flu season.

Nasal Suctioning:
For infants, using a bulb syringe to gently suction mucus from the nose can help improve breathing.

Medical Evaluation:
If your child needs to be evaluated, schedule in-home appointment in the Phoenix area. www.mobilemendy.com

Navigating Back To School During Flu Season: 7 Tips for a Healthy Year 📝

As we prepare for the back-to-school season, it's essential to be mindful of the flu season that is approaching! 🦠

1. Hand Hygiene: 🧼🫧
Teach your child to wash their hands regularly with soap and warm water. Especially after going to the bathroom or sneezing/coughing!

2. Respiratory Etiquette: 🤧
Instruct your child to cover their mouth and nose with a tissue or their elbow when they cough or sneeze!

3. Stay Home When Sick: 🏠
If your child develops flu-like symptoms, keep them home from school. This will help prevent classmates from getting sick as well.

4. Healthy Diet: 🍎🥦🍞
A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains supports a strong immune system.

5. Stay Active: 🤸🏽‍♂️⛹🏼
Regular physical activity boosts overall health and can enhance the immune system.

6. Get Adequate Sleep: 🛏️😴
A good night’s sleep is essential for a robust immune system. Set a consistent sleep schedule for your child to ensure they get enough rest!

7. Clean and Disinfect: 🦠🧽
Regularly clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces in your home, such as doorknobs, light switches, and countertops.

Stay healthy and enjoy another year of learning!
