As anyone who has suffered from a sleep disorder knows, sleep apnea can be debilitating. In addition to loud snoring, apnea causes daytime sleepiness, fatigue, and exhaustion, as well as headaches, dry mouth, worsening blood pressure, and, for men, s*xual dysfunction. A major public health problem is drowsy driving.

While research shows that insomnia is tied to depression, one older study found that insomnia related to sleep maintenance β€” like sleep apnea β€” had the largest correlation to depression and anxiety. Another newer study found that about 46 percent of people with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) had depressive symptoms.
