Pressure ulcers (bed sores) can look like a bruise or a blister in the beginning.
They form when a large amount of pressure is applied to a region of the body for a short period of time. Or, when a smaller amount of pressure is applied to a region over a long period of time. This pressure disrupts the blood flow to the affected region through deformation of the skin.
This lack of blood flow manifests through discoloring of the skin- red, purple, blue patches that do not turn white when pressed.
