Extreme Heat Warning – Stay Safe, Stay Cool 🔥

The Phoenix National Weather Service has issued a weather alert for dangerously high temperatures, with forecasts reaching up to 116°F on Wednesday (7/9).

At Desert Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, we know just how serious extreme heat can be — especially for our patients and seniors in the community. Those receiving hospice and palliative care face significantly higher risks during heat waves due to age-related changes, chronic illnesses, and medications that can impair the body’s ability to stay cool and hydrated.

Our nurses and social workers are working diligently behind the scenes to get resources and help to the people our patients rely on — making sure caregivers, loved ones, and communities have the support they need to keep our patients safe.

💧 Please check in on elderly neighbors, patients, or loved ones. Make sure they stay cool, hydrated, and out of direct sun. For those living with dementia, extra care may be needed, as they may not recognize the signs of overheating.

Let’s all do our part to protect the most vulnerable among us during this dangerous heat wave.

At Desert Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, we are honored to support patients wherever they reside—whether in private homes, assisted living communities, memory care centers, group homes, or skilled nursing facilities throughout Maricopa County.

We are deeply committed to building meaningful connections, which is why we regularly team up with care partners across the Valley to create events that inspire, educate, and bring joy.

On Wednesday, we were thrilled to spend the evening with the residents of Inspirations of Tempe for a lively and informative presentation on the history of champagne—complete with a wine tasting experience! 🍾 The evening was filled with laughter, learning, and warm conversations.

Thank you to the wonderful team and residents at Inspirations of Tempe for welcoming us so warmly and making the event such a success. We’re already looking forward to the next one! 💛

Crafting with our patients and community members is just one of the many ways our team brings comfort, compassion, and joy beyond medical care.

🌿💙 Honoring Our Desert Valley Hospice Nurses: The Power of Compassion 💙🌿

During National Nurses Week, we pause to honor and celebrate the extraordinary nurses who serve with heart, strength, and unwavering dedication. This year’s theme from the American Nurses Association — "The Power of Nurses" — perfectly reflects the profound role hospice nurses play in the lives of patients and their families.

At Desert Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, our nurses provide so much more than medical care. They bring comfort in pain, clarity in confusion, and gentle strength in times of sorrow. Their presence brings peace, dignity, and love to every moment — a true reflection of nursing at its highest calling.

💛 To our DVH nurses: thank you for your compassion, your resilience, and your heart. Your work makes a lasting difference, and we are proud to recognize you this week and every week. 💛

Please join us in celebrating our incredible team who help guide our patients and families with grace and care.

April is Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Month! We want to take a moment to express our deep gratitude to the providers, caregivers, and families who support those living with Parkinson’s. Your unwavering dedication, compassion, and strength make a world of difference.

Parkinson’s is a chronic and progressive neurological disorder that affects movement and can challenge many aspects of daily life. At Desert Valley Hospice, we are honored to be a proud member of an organization working tirelessly to improve care and advance research toward a cure.

As Parkinson’s progresses, it can become increasingly difficult to manage. That's why we are here — to help optimize the quality of life for patients in the advanced stages of Parkinson’s, while also offering much-needed support for their families.

To all the caregivers and families who stand by those living with Parkinson’s, we see you, we appreciate you, and we’re with you every step of the way. Together, we can make a difference.
