This lip filler story is worth the read 🤓
This beauty came to me after she had her lip filler dissolved by another injector. Over the past several years she's had filler placed, dissolved, placed, spot dissolved, placed, and dissolved. While we worked on her treatment plan for other areas of her face, we agreed her lips needed time to heal and we didn't touch them for over a year.
When I assessed her in February prior injecting, her lip tissue was very lax. So we had some tough conversations about realistic expectations and product selection. After 2 pokes, it was noted that the filler was pocketing and moving into space I didn't even inject (for the injectors reading - in the pink of the lip upper tubercles, not superficial, correct plane, none noted in the wet border). I showed the patients and informed her I was changing up my technique and that we would have to massage the filler out of the pockets. Prior to leaving, her lips were swollen but no lumps were noted by me or the patient.
Over the days to follow, the patient was bruised and swollen as expected. She was checking in with her often and she started to notice the filler was going back into the pockets. She began to massage (under my direction, don't manipulate your filler on your own 😉) - the March 3rd picture you can notice she was swollen again due to the manipulation. I brought her in, assessed, and told her to leave them alone and we would correct the pockets after they healed more.
Fast forward, we ended up spot dissolving in two sessions, adding tiny, tiny spots of hylenx to be careful not to overcorrect. The end result, healed beautiful lips.
Takeaways:
✨ She had a lot of trauma to her lips prior to coming to me and even after so much time between last dissolved and infecting, there was tissue/scarring issues that made it a more challenging case
✨ She felt comfortable reaching out whenever she was concerned or just wanted to update me. Your injector should not dismiss your concerns. Communication is 🗝️
✨ We were patient and safe to create these beauties we are both happy with. 👄
