Upon arrival at St. Joseph Hospital, there was no waiting. Within the hour, the news came. I had a subdural hematoma, an epidural hematoma, and a skull fracture, meaning I was bleeding beneath the skull in two places in my brain. This was just the beginning of a long journey of pain.

Chronic pain is defined as persistent or recurrent pain for at least three months. This minimum duration is arbitrary but consistent with temporal cutoffs for other chronic conditions and conventional definitions of chronic pain in many clinical trials and health statistics.

Addressing chronic pain is akin to unraveling a tightly woven knot. It must be undone with an understanding of the knot itself.
Pain is a universal experience. It is an integral part of our survival as a species. Without pain, we would not recognize threats (actual or potential) to our bodies. Pain is, especially chronic pain, a very real and complex experience touching every domain in one's life. Need help?
