Today, we honor the millions of lives lost, the long-term survivors who carry our history, and the global movement working to end HIV and AIDS. This year, the U.S. will not formally commemorate World AIDS Day—a decision following proposed federal cuts that threaten to reverse decades of progress. These cuts would slash more than $1 billion from the CDC, eliminate key HIV programs, and weaken the Ryan White Program. San Diego Pride condemns these harmful decisions and unites with the advocates, providers, and communities fighting to protect HIV prevention, treatment, and care. This year’s theme, “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response,” is a reminder of our collective power. Even without federal recognition, we remember, we resist, and we continue the work alongside long-term survivors, people living with HIV, and those most impacted. HIV is not over. Neither is our commitment.
