August is National Grief Awareness Month.

Grief is deeply personal and affects many of us:
-Over 57% of Americans have experienced a major loss in the past three years, including friends, family, or pets.
-10% of bereaved adults experience complicated grief, where intense sorrow makes it hard to move forward.

At UH, we understand that grief isn't something to get over, it's something to be held, in your own way and your own time. Whether you're anticipating a future loss, navigating a recent one, or supporting someone in grief, we're here walking beside you with compassion, dignity, and understanding.

If your heart feels heavy today, know that you're seen, and you're not alone.

💙 Caring for Caregivers: Embracing Anticipatory Grief & Self-Care 💙

Caregivers: whether family members, staff in group homes, or community partners - you carry a unique and profound weight. Alongside the daily responsibilities of caring for a loved one facing serious illness, many experience anticipatory grief—the sorrow and stress felt even before a loss occurs.

This kind of grief is real and often overlooked. It’s the emotional toll of watching someone you love change, feeling uncertainty, and managing your own hopes and fears—all while continuing to provide compassionate care.

At UH, we honor this experience and want caregivers to know: You are not alone. Your feelings are valid, and your well-being matters. We experience the same thing every day, we understand.

Here are some psychotherapist-recommended self-care tips to help you navigate this journey:
• Pause and Breathe: Take moments throughout the day to practice deep breathing or grounding exercises to reduce stress.
• Set Boundaries: It’s okay to ask for help and take breaks. Caring for yourself enables you to care better for others.
• Stay Connected: Share your feelings with trusted friends, family, or support groups—community matters.
• Engage in Joy: Find small activities that bring you peace or happiness, whether it’s reading, music, or a short walk.
• Seek Professional Support: Counseling or therapy can provide a safe space to process anticipatory grief and emotions.

Remember, caring for your emotional and physical health isn’t a luxury—it’s essential. Your strength, resilience, and love make all the difference.

If you’re caring for a loved one or supporting hospice patients in any way, we’re here to support you too; if you want to learn more or talk about some of these tips, give us a call.
