National Grief Awareness Week #3

Children and teens experience grief differently and understanding their unique needs helps you support them effectively.
• Young children may grieve in short waves - moments of sadness followed by play. Simple, honest explanations and steady reassurance help them feel safe and supported as they process loss.
• Teens understand that death is permanent, and their grief may show as deep emotions or struggles with identity. Respecting their need for privacy while encouraging healthy peer connections helps them feel supported and less alone.

Ways to help children and teens navigate grief:
• Provide supplies for memory jars, drawings, collages, journaling, or writing letters to loved ones.
• Use dolls, puppets, or role play as a way for them to express the feelings they may not have words for.
• Encourage personal remembrance rituals. Have them hang a special ornament, bake a favorite treat, or do other meaningful activities.
• Support teens in volunteering or giving back so they can channel their grief into purpose and healing.

Tomorrow we’ll focus on strategies when coping with grief.

National Grief Awareness Week #2
A Time to Honor Loved Ones

Speak your loved one's name. In doing so, you honor their memory, keep their presence close, and take an important step toward healing.

After the loss of a loved one, rituals - especially during the holidays can hold deep significance. They remind us of the love we shared, offer a safe space to reflect and express our grief, and help transform the holidays into moments of meaning rather than pain.

Here are a few ritual ideas to consider:
Create memory ornaments, light candles, or setup a "memory wall" with photos.
Incorporate a loved one's favorite dish, song, or tradition into holiday gatherings as a tribute.

Tomorrow We'll identify ways to support caregivers.

National Grief Awareness Week #1

It's the holiday season, and while it is intended to be filled with cheer and togetherness, it can feel overwhelming and carry moments of sadness for many.
Grief is a natural response to losing someone we love - or even anticipating a loss. During the holiday season, those emotions can feel especially strong. Yet even as grief may surface unexpectedly amid our traditions, celebrations and responsibilities, there is also space for healing. Moments of comfort, connection, and hope can gently emerge, reminding us that love continues to shine through the sorrow.
If you know someone who is grieving, be supportive through the process. If you are grieving, be kind to yourself. the holidays may feel different this year, and that's okay. There is no right way to grieve or celebrate the holidays.

Tomorrow we'll highlight ways to honor your loved ones.

Choosing the right hospice care is a deeply personal decision that can impact both patients and their families. Start by looking into the reputation and accreditation of local providers, and seek out feedback from others to gain insight into their experiences. Quality hospice care should go beyond basic medical support by offering pain management, emotional and spiritual counseling, help with daily activities, and specialized therapists for unique needs. It is also important to find a provider that communicates clearly, offers a 24/7 support line, and responds quickly to urgent questions. Ultimately, your chosen provider should support your family with empathy, transparency, and professionalism, ensuring your loved one’s comfort and dignity. Choosing hospice care for a loved one is a deeply personal decision. To make the process easier, focus on three essential qualities. First, round-the-clock support ensures your loved one receives immediate attention and comfort, day or night. Second, cost transparency is key, as many services are covered by Medicare, reducing financial stress when you need it most. Make sure your provider clearly explains their billing practices and confirms there are no extra out-of-pocket expenses for essential care. Finally, seek out a provider that offers community-centered and personalized care, tailoring services to your loved one’s needs and keeping them surrounded by family in familiar settings. By prioritizing these qualities, you can make a choice that brings peace of mind and honors your loved one’s wishes. Visit our website or call us today to learn more about our compassionate support.
