Who feels a jolt of pleasure when you eat something yummy? 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️
Obviously #5 should be done in moderation. Periodically treating yourself to something that is outside your daily routine can be a simple way to boost those feel good chemicals.
And if you’re in need of any guidance on the other 4, I’ve got you covered.

Hello lovely people and happy Monday! I hope your week is off to a great start!
I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself, I realize I’ve been putting out some content, but there hasn’t been a real face or voice to go with it. Unfortunately there still won’t be a voice as I’m working through some insecurity about the way that mine sounds over video 😅

My name is Erin and I am your life, health and empowerment coach! I am here to help you find your own voice(irony, I know) in the changing world, whatever that might mean to you.
For a little bit of background about me, I actually transitioned to coaching from a clinical therapy practice where I worked with clients who struggled with:
◾️Addiction and behavioral health issues
◾️Mental health
◾️Navigating significant life changes and challenges
◾️Managing everyday stressors
and just generally wanting to get to a place where they could experience more positive emotions on a regular basis.

I have a Masters degree in the health and human services field, particularly counseling, and I have spent part of my career in a medication assisted treatment setting for mental and behavioral health. I have worked primarily in the practice of behavior and cognitive change.
My knowledge and experience helps me in applying the concepts of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy methods to my coaching practice, and you’ll see some of these ideas reflected in my content!

When I decided to transition to building my own business in this field, I did also acquire a certification in Professional Life Coaching(CPLC) just to make sure all of my knowledge and skills were up to standard in the industry.

Some of the areas that I provide coaching services for include:
✅anxiety and stress management
✅emotional regulation and intelligence
✅organization and time management skills
✅communication and relationship skills
✅self care and boundary setting
✅behavior modification and habit building

I understand that’s a long list. I definitely do not claim to be able to help everyone who ever experiences difficulty in these areas, but I do have a range of knowledge that I hope to share with anyone who may need it and ask for it. I have been particularly focused on helping to improve the way individuals build, maintain and connect within their relationships, because relationships are really at the heart of everything we do. Without a basic understanding of how our thoughts and actions can affect them, we will continue to miss out on full, joyful experiences.

I want to assure you that I have utilized coaching services for myself as a way to keep developing personally and professionally, and I find it to be a beneficial tool in propelling yourself beyond the comforts of routine and complacency, and to seek your full potential.

Let’s find out if working together could help you make the changes you’ve been looking for!

1. Self awareness
2. Self care
3. Communication
What I believe to be “non-negotiables”when it comes to building lasting and fulfilling relationships.

How you handle and move on from conflict will depend on the strength of these three skills.

How you view and experience emotion(positive or negative) will depend on these three skills.

And they are SKILLS, which can be learned and improved.

Who has heard the term ‘cognitive distortion’ before?

Maybe you’ve had a thought like this:
💭“Nothing ever works out for me” (overgeneralization)

or...

💭“Something bad always happens, so this time won’t be different” (jumping to conclusions/fortune telling)

Or even...

💭“I made a mistake, I’m just not good at anything” (polarization)

Sometimes it looks like this...

💭“My spouse is upset, I must have done something to make them mad”(personalization)

And then you spend the rest of the day(or longer) feeling sad, anxious, ashamed or any number of other negative things.

Your negative emotional state continues to affect your mood, decisions and actions and you’re not sure why you’ve had such a bad day.

Cognitive distortions are something we all experience. They are automatic internal biases that contribute to anxiety, conflict and isolation. They are often a result of our unique world view and will reflect the patterns in which we interpret ourselves and the events happening around us. We don't have the power to change how the world works, but we have the power to change ourselves.

As Marcus Aurelias wisely stated, “The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts” and the quality of your thoughts is controlled only by you.

Let's do some positive self work today!

This week I've been working on a lot of cognitive restructuring and focus of control. It has been a great reminder for me as well as my clients who are wanting to challenge their emotions and change their lives.
More on cognitive distortions coming up!🧠🔑🤯

THE POWER OF A LISTENING EAR AND A CARING HEART

I know I've been in this place before - feeling overwhelmed, foggy and even a little lost...unsure of the decisions I had made or would be making in the future, stepping into massive change and out of comfort.

But I had a VISION for my future, and I decided I would get there somehow...all I needed was a map and a guide.

Now that I have that, I can be of service to others in finding their way.
Let's talk about how we can move forward together!

Awareness Check:
How Can I Evaluate My Level of Emotional Intelligence?
Emotional Intelligence, or EQ, is the ability to understand, utilise and regulate emotions in a positive way in order to overcome obstacles, manage conflict and make meaningful interpersonal connections.
Here are some things to consider when determining your level of EQ:
✳️How well do I manage stress? Do I use appropriate coping skills to relieve stress and tension?
✳️Can I demonstrate impulse control? Do I follow through on my commitments?
✳️Do I know what my strengths and weaknesses are? Do I recognise how my emotions affect my decisions and actions?
✳️Do I understand the emotional needs of others? Am I able to experience and express empathy?
✳️Do my communication skills foster healthy relationships? Can I work well on a team, accept criticism, and use conflict constructively?
While some of these things may come naturally to you, others can be difficult to master, and no one has perfect EQ. With practice, these skills can be improved and strengthened which means a happier, healthier life for you!
Which of these areas need your attention the most right now? Which ones do you feel you’re thriving at?

Hard Truth:
You can’t change what you can’t control.

Awareness Check: How do I know if I need stronger boundaries?

The term ‘boundaries’, as it pertains to our relationships with others, has become increasingly popular with the movement toward less burnout and more self-love in the last several years.

A boundary is like a fence. It is meant to keep specific things out of our personal space. In terms of interpersonal relationships, it is a non-negotiable rule that we establish in order to keep ourselves safe and healthy. Weak or flexible boundaries are more likely to contribute to high levels of burnout, stress, anxiety, resentment, anger and much more.

So how can we tell if our boundaries need some work? Here are 5 things to watch out for:

1. Saying ‘No’ Is A Struggle
2. Expressing Wants and Needs Feels Taboo
3. High Levels of Emotional Reactivity/Feelings are Easily Hurt
4. Relationships that are Emotionally Draining
5. You Feel Uncomfortable Taking ‘Me Time’

While there are many other things that could indicate poor boundaries, these are some of the most common. Do you recognize any of these in yourself? Send me a message to get started on building healthier boundaries in your own life!
