Chocolate Protein Adaptogenic Lactation Smoothie! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿคฉ

(For non-lactating people as well!)

Tastes like a malted chocolate shake! ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ˜

1 scoop chocolate (or vanilla) protein powder
1/4 Rolled Oats
10-16 Water
1/4c Coconut milk (optional)
3 Dates- pitted
1.5 T Raw cacao powder
1 T Brewers Yeast
1 T Flax seed powder
1 T Almond butter
1/3tsp Ashwaghanda
1/3tsp Shatavari
Splash of maple to lightly sweeten (optional)

Blend & Enjoy!

*Brewers yeast is bitter but has loads of benefits! For lactating mamas this can be an essential galactagogue! (There are also debittered kinds.) If youโ€™re not using this to increase milk supply, feel free to omit ๐Ÿ˜Š

In short, it slows/weighs things down and impares the above mentioned systems

Nearly everything (to one degree or another)

Hereโ€™s my issue with (especially pre-made) lactation cookies, bars, etc.. they are often loaded with unnecessary sugar, carbs, fillers, thickeners, etc. and frequently lack any real nutrition.

Yes! Breastfeeding and pumping require about an extra 500 calories per day!.. AND, Why not make those calories work FOR you and your baby, and not AGAINST you??

Iโ€™ve spent quite some time searching many recipes and have found there are some key ingredients that overlap among recipes, so letโ€™s focus on just those BENEFICIAL ones & create some magic!๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿณ โœจ

Quick background on me and my experience:

-Iโ€™ve spent over a decade as a classically trained professional chef
-Have held multiple certifications in fitness and nutrition for 15 years
-Going to school to be an Ayurvedic Practitioner (after 5 years of self study and healing many maladies.)
-Mama who struggled quite a bit with her milk supply & had tried nearly everything!

With motherhood comes many joys.. and also responsibilities! What we really need is ease, simplicity, and efficiency! ๐Ÿ’ฅ

As a long time chef/foodie, nutritionist, and dedicated mama my food and beverages have to not only be nutrient dense, but they have to TASTE GOOD & BE PRACTICAL!! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

***Always seek advise from your medical professional in regards to supply issues, food, supplements, etc. I am speaking only from my own experience and education, and addressing only the nutrition piece, there are of course many other ways to increase/maintain your supply!***

I was blessed to live in Mexico where I was a private chef with my ex husband (who was a Mexican National AND an incredible chef!) Between him, culinary school, and dining throughout the country, I developed a palette and LOVE for authentic Mexican cuisine!! ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฝ

Chilaquiles has always been one of my favorite dishesโฃ๏ธ While I often speak of โ€œfood as medicineโ€ and this may not seem like the โ€˜healthiestโ€™ meal, Iโ€™ve also learned through my studies as an Ayurvedic Practitioner that if you have a craving, you shouldnโ€™t hold back (within reason of course! And if your digestive system can handle it.)
So for me, this dish is medicine for the soul! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ I donโ€™t have it frequently, but when I do, I allow myself to THOROUGHLY enjoy it!!! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป

As with most chefs, I donโ€™t follow a recipe but rather cook with soul, experience, and intuition! So feel free to adjust to YOUR liking ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ Food should be fun!!

This is a basic and easy version of this recipe

8-10 ripe Roma tomatoes
1/4 of a large onion
4-6 Chipotles
1/2 Serrano chile
1 large clove of garlic
Salt & pepper to taste

โ€ขBlend until smooth
โ€ขCook on low-medium for about 20-30 minutes
โ€ขFry or bake [corn] tortillas

(The fried ones do have a much better taste & texture ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ! I use ๐Ÿฅ‘oil to fry)

โ€ขDip cooked tortillas in sauce for about 1 minute. I like them better when theyโ€™re a little crunchy! ๐Ÿ˜‹

โ€ขServe with any or all:

-Chopped onions
-Monterey Jack Cheese or Queso Fresco
-Fried egg
-Avocado
-Black beans
-Shredded or grilled chicken
-Salsa Verde instead of red sauce, or if youโ€™re feeling super ambitious and creative try it โ€œdivorciadosโ€- half red and half green salsa! ๐Ÿ˜

*Chipotles- start with 4 and check spice level. Same with serranos ๐ŸŒถ
*You can also omit those chiles & play with ancho, pasilla, or guajillo

*Use canned tomatoes in a pinch, but fresh really is better! ๐Ÿ…

*For an authentic touch, use epazote in sauce... and in black beans to help cut down on gas! Dried = early in the cooking process. Fresh = goes in near the end ๐ŸŒฟ

I believe in coaching people that itโ€™s OKAY to indulge a bit.. but in a way that is sustainable and when there is balance in the system(s) first! ๐Ÿ’ž

This is my go-to super powered oatmeal set up!

As a busy mom, dog mom, business owner, and student, I need FAST food, and not fast-food ๐Ÿ˜

This only takes 2 minutes to put together and then when you are ready to eat, you can add a few other favorites, some boiling water, and go!

-Oat packet
(I love Nature's Path- Maple Nut)
-Pecans and/or walnuts
-H**p seeds
-Cinnamon

Leave all of that in jar (for up to 2 weeks)
When ready to eat, I like to add:

-Almond butter
-Diced Apple
-Drizzle of maple
-Boiling water

You can also use a โ€˜Oatmealโ€™ packet as well

Why I love this so much:

-It cooks the oatmeal PERFECTLY in here ๐Ÿคฉ
-I can prep a weeks worth of breakfast in 5 minutes!
-Because itโ€™s in a mason jar, it wonโ€™t leak if you like yours soupy (which I do! ๐Ÿ˜)
-It fits in my cup holder!

1 Giant celery ๐Ÿ˜‚ (or 2 normal sized!)
2 Cucumbers
1 Kale bunch- de-stemmed
16oz Coconut water (I use c2o or Nirvana)
