Marwan Sabbagh, MD, FAAN, the Vice Chair of Research in the Department of and the Moreno Family Chair for at , was featured in an article by Healio for a presentation he recently gave on blarcamesine research.

According to the abstract presented by Dr. Sabbagh at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference, a daily dose of blarcamesine restored autophagy among patients with early , with improved outcomes through 192 weeks.

Researchers are starting to take a closer look at autophagy, which is the body's cellular recycling system, in the context of disease. Dr. Sabbagh said the idea that amyloid accumulation is the earliest seminal event in triggering the progression of Alzheimer’s is now being reconceptualized.

Earlier this month, we welcomed our first neurology observer funded by the Franke Education Center. The Franke family is funding two positions at this year.

Dr. Yodit Molla (left) is visiting Barrow for three months from Addis Ababa, Ethiopa, where she completed a residency and now works at ALERT Comprehensive Specialized Hospital.

Dr. Molla said she discovered the Barrow observership on social media and applied in hopes of learning from one of the world's leading neurological institutes, particularly in care, and exploring how she could adapt the practices at Barrow to her own country.

"Stroke care in Ethiopia has a long way to go, but I believe progress happens one step a time," she added.

Nicki Niemann, MD, a movement disorders in the at , was honored by the local chapter of the Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA) at its recent “Celebration of Hope” community fundraising event.

Each year, the event recognizes honorees in different categories, such as professionals and community members. These honorees are acknowledged for going above and beyond to improve the lives of people with in some way.

Dr. Niemann leads the Huntington’s disease program at Barrow, which is the only HDSA Center of Excellence in . As such, Barrow serves an important role in providing specialty treatment and clinical trial participation for people with Huntington’s in the state.
