Hello from Piipash, Hohokam, and O'odham land! FPAMG will be closed Thursday 11/23 through Sunday 11/26. We will return to the office to answer your calls on Monday 11/27/23.

While many of us are excited to spend time in gratitude with our loved ones this year, we also want to remember that Thanksgiving is also the National Day of Mourning. The truth of the first Thanksgiving is more complicated than most of us were taught - European colonizers enacted genocidal violence on the Wampanoag people and later told a story glorifying their actions. Today, Thanksgiving holds meaning for many people unconnected to historical events, but we will never forget the complicated legacy of this holiday.

Special thanks to Indigenous Women Rising for their guidance and support and to all our Indigenous patients who trust us with their medical care. Whatever you do this upcoming week, take a few minutes to learn more about the “first Thanksgiving.” (links in comments)

Meet our Doctors!
Dr. Paul Isaacson (he/him; left) graduated summa cm laude from Boston College with a degree in Biochemistry, and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He went on to Tufts University School of Medicine, where he received his medical doctorate in 1991. He was chosen to be a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society. He completed his internship and residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, the two main teaching affiliates of Harvard Medical School. There, he was chosen to be the Chief Resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Throughout his career, Dr. Isaacson has been committed to providing abortion services. In 1995, he moved to the Phoenix area and began practicing general obstetrics and gynecology, which he did until the beginning of 2004 when he decided to devote himself full-time to providing abortion care and helping to keep choice available for women. Dr. Isaacson is on the faculty of the University of Arizona College of Medicine as an Assistant Clinical Professor.

Dr. Eleanor Powell Stanley (she/her; right) graduated from George Washington University with a double degree in Chemistry and Philosophy. She then attended London School of Economics and took the Master of Science program in Logic & Scientific Method. She returned to GWU School of Allied Health Sciences and became a Physician Assistant, working at the GWU HMO and at the VA Medical Center in Cardiology before returning to GWU School of Medicine, where she received her medical doctorate in 1991. She completed internship and residency at the University of New Mexico Medical Center in Albuquerque.

Dr. Eleanor Powell Stanley enjoyed the opportunity to practice community obstetrics and gynecology for a decade before specializing in the practice of abortion medicine beginning in 2004. She believes passionately in the principle of choice and her work is dedicated to providing safe and accessible abortion services. Dr. Stanley is on the faculty of the University of Arizona College of Medicine as an Assistant Clinical Professor.
