Dr. Rand is a board-certified foot and ankle specialist and a diplomat with American Board of Podiatric Medicine. Phoenix is a runner’s dream with its mountain preserves, and Shadow Mountain at 2601 E Acoma Dr is one of my absolute favorites. Not only does it offer an amazing ~2.6-mile loop with breathtaking views, but it’s also where I proposed to my wife at the summit! 💍

Why Shadow Mountain?

Elevation & Flats: Perfect for mixing inclines with long, smooth stretches to hit your stride.
Unmarked Charm: The trail isn’t well-marked but is easy to follow—plus, you can summit for even more views!

Dog-Friendly: Bring your furry running buddy, but watch for coyotes (don’t worry, they’re used to us humans).

Insider Tip:
Run it all day in the winter or during sunrise/sunset in the summer for the best experience.
