✨ Creativity knows no age. ✨
We’re excited to share that The Opportunity Tree has been awarded the Lifelong Arts Engagement Grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts ! This grant will support two 8-week workshops designed especially for our Supported Aging Members—older adults with IDD and dementia—bringing weekly opportunities for art, expression, and connection.

For many of our Members, the arts are more than a hobby—they’re a source of joy, memory, and meaningful engagement. With this support, we’ll continue creating dynamic & innovative environments where creativity fuels well-being, social connection, and quality of life.

A huge thank-you to the Arizona Commission on the Arts for believing in the power of creativity to transform lives. 💚

Breaking news - we are back for our 3rd Annual Autumn Soirée this fall! 🍂✨
On the evening of October 23rd, over 250 changemakers will gather to support over 6 decades of The Opportunity Tree’s life-changing & intergenerational programs impacting children, teens, adults & seniors with intellectual disabilities across Arizona.

Our friends from the phoenixsymphony will be here to perform alongside our Members, and that doesn't even scratch the surface of what else is in store...

Fireslammers Preseason! 🔥🎳
We rolled through the Special Olympics 2025 Bowl-A-Thon last week with strikes and turkeys to get ready for the upcoming season! The entire experience was electric and your hometown Fireslammers got busy crushing the lanes and mixing it up with our fellow teams, the Special O crew, and a ton of community partners. Kharu from our Avondale campus took home the chunky gold Bowl A Thon Championship ring with the highest score of the day too!

Big thank you to , , and everyone involved for a fantastic day at the lanes. With pre-season in the rearview, our sights are set on the 25/26 season ahead of us…see you at Bocce, let’s go Fireslammers 🌳🔥🏆!

Makerspace SPARKs 🧠⚡️!
This summer, we've been honored to host Nassar at our Avondale campus as part of the Harvard College Spark summer internship program!

Before heading off to start his first year at Harvard University 🎓, .bahody spent 6 weeks in our Makerspace improving technology accessibility, helping us discover new features and capabilities, and developing new and improved user guides to enhance and expand Member experiences. This sustained impact is crucial to expanding opportunities to create, learn, and explore both now, and into the future!

Go get 'em at Harvard Nassar, and big shout out to the Harvard College First-Year Experience Office program for connecting future leaders with local impact!📚🌳🌎

Big thanks to , and Phoenix Suns/ Phoenix Mercury Foundation for helping us grow a culture of literacy, choice, and community while diving into the next story!

We are currently seeking community members passionate about supporting people with intellectual disabilities to join The Opportunity Tree's Board of Directors —and we’d love to hear from YOU!

The Opportunity Tree has been supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) across all stages of life since 1963; if you believe in promoting the development of a society that fully embraces individuals with IDD through inclusion, advocacy and opportunities, this is your chance to be part of one of the largest and most deeply rooted 501-c3 human services organizations in Arizona.

💡 What does a Board Member do?
Board Members help activate our Mission, embody our Vision, leverage resources and network connections, raise funds, and champion the voices of our Members in the community. You don’t need to be an expert—just someone who’s committed to making a difference, willing to engage the community in support of our Members, and passionate about increasing quality of life for people with IDD.

We're especially excited to connect with individuals who:
❤️‍🔥 Are passionate about disability inclusion and community advocacy
✏️ Bring experience in leadership, fundraising, event planning, community partnerships, development, and/or public policy

Our Summer Tree Fort in Avondale just leveled up! 🌟
Our Members got on the Zelda Game Bus for an immersive VR experience thanks to the amazing team at the Georgia T. Lord Library in Goodyear!

From learning the basics, to teaming up for virtual challenges, our crew dove into the worlds of Minecraft, Lego, the NBA and NFL for a day of inclusive tech and action packed gaming. Big shout out to Maricopa County Libraries Maricopa County Library District for giving us the joysticks and the chance to learn, connect, and create! 👇

🌟 From dreaming about getting paid to full independence: meet our very own Mayra! 🌟
When Mayra graduated high school 8 years ago, one of her very first goals was to start making money! Originally joining our LEAF Adult Program, Mayra quickly took her first step into the workforce, working right here at The Opportunity Tree's Phoenix Campus.

She started her career as our Front Desk receptionist greeting visitors, answering calls, leading campus tours, and more with the help of various job coaches, over the course of 3 years. These experiences helped Mayra build her confidence, communication skills, organizational talents, and a strong work ethic, while also developing customer service skills and adaptability to new situations 💼💚.

Based on her resume, skill set and experience, Mayra was offered a job at in 2024 and hasn't looked back👉! With time, practice, and the support of our SEEDS Employment Team, Mayra went from full time on the job supports... to weekly check-ins... to monthly check-ins... to working fully independently in her own community, increasing her hours, and getting more responsibilities 💪✨!

Most recently, Mayra celebrated ONE FULL YEAR of successful competitive integrated employment and we couldn't be more happy for her! 🎉👏

We are also proud to say that Mayra is a founding Member of our SEEDS Employment Services in its current form and that through her work, she’s building a life she’s proud of and paving the way for our other Members to do the same.

July is Disability Pride Month and we're taking time out to recognize and celebrate all of our Members who turn inclusion into action every single day. Meet Cooper — a proud Member of our vibrant Phoenix LEAF adult day program, a highly decorated Fireslammer Special Olympics Athlete and, most importantly, a working man holding down 2 jobs independently in the community! 🌎🔥💼

At The Tree, Cooper is all about saying yes—to life, to new experiences, and to new opportunities to grow and explore. Best of all, our man "Coop" has also met the love of his life... From the moment he met Dalia, they both knew something was different and one year later, they’re engaged and are living proof that when inclusion thrives, connection does too. 💞
