Think speed training is just sprinting in a straight line? That’s where most athletes miss the mark.

True speed is built in the offseason and it goes far beyond linear acceleration. It requires a smart blend of linear power, lateral agility, and sport-specific mechanics that prepare your body to move fast and stay healthy.

In this week’s Spooner blog, Spooner Sports Institute Head Sports Performance Coach Ernie breaks down why skipping sprint work now doesn’t just limit performance, but it can increase injury risk later.

Train smarter now. Move faster when it counts.

Torrey Foster, PT, DPT, OCS, FAFS, CSCS, is helping shape the future of sports medicine, not just in the clinic, but in the classroom.

This semester, Torrey taught Foundations of Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation, and hosted students at Spooner Sports Institute on December 8. Over the eight-week course, students gained insight into the athlete’s journey, from building trust to applying hands-on rehab strategies.

The students are pursuing a Health Sciences – Fitness & Wellness, BS through Northern Arizona University, with classes held on the Glendale Community College campus, where Torrey served as an NAU instructor.

We’re proud to support leaders who invest in education, mentorship, and the next generation of PTs. Thank you, Torrey, for raising the bar.
