✨OT session turned into a cozy sensory adventure!✨

We love building forts out of therapy equipment! Here we used a parachute, floor mats, dimmed lighting, light-up toys - all to create a calming friendly hideaway to work on some seated fine motor skills at the table! 🌈🧸

This kind of environment helps to support self-regulation by reducing sensory overload, and also simultaneously encourages imaginative play while providing a safe and fun place to learn and grow!

Having fun while working on fine motor and visual motor skills! 👋

In this therapy activity, we are using a variety of resistive theraputty to find and pull out tiny shapes by using a neat pincer grasp (thumb & index finger teamwork 💪)!

Then carefully placing each piece into their correct slot onto the board - building finger strength, fine motor precision, visual motor skills, and eye-hand coordination all at once!

A simple yet powerful way to support skills needed for every day functional skills such as handwriting, buttoning, and more!🌟

Working on shoe tying! 🎉

Shoe tying may seem like it’s just a life skill, but it is really a super skill that combines fine motor coordination, bilateral integration (using both hands together), motor planning, visual motor skills, sequencing, and more!

✨ Looking for some fun tips & tricks for new learners?

👟Practice on a shoe at the table first. It’s easier when it’s stable and at eye level!
👟Use stiff laces that hold their shape or pipe-cleaners (no floppy spaghetti laces).
👟Try two different colored laces to make the laces and sequence easier to see.
👟Break it down into small steps and practice each step on repeat before putting it all together

With some creativity and positive encouragement shoe tying becomes less stressful and more fun! 🥳

Being able to identify emotions is an important foundational step when it comes to building self-regulation skills, self-awareness, and stronger connections with others 💛 In OT we like to use visuals, movement, and play to make these big concepts feel safe, fun and simple! We love the power of a dot marker! 🎨 What might look like just a fun and colorful art tool is actually a go-to favorite in OT sessions - and for a lot of good reasons!!
