✨Did you know? ✨ it is strongly supported by research and clinical practice that use of AAC will not “stop” a child from learning to speak and will not make them reliant/give up on natural speech. A common myth bust! 💥

AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) refers to a variety tools and strategies that can enhance or add to speech, or can also provide a different means of communication. This includes communication boards, visual schedules, picture exchange communication, sign language, switches, iPads/tablets, and other speech generated devices and more!

Available research indicates that AAC has a positive impact on speech production and facilitates spoken language by increasing interaction, language skills, and/or providing a voice output model for speech.

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) are the everyday tasks that we do to take care of ourselves and live independently! A few common ADLs include self-cares, grooming, feeding, dressing, and toileting! 🪥👕🚽 OTs are experts at helping kids gain these essential life skills and build independence!

Hair brushing takes a lot of motor skills, coordination, sensory tolerance! 🌟✨

✏️⭐️Did you know?! ⭐️✏️

Pre-writing strokes (such as vertical and horizontal lines, circle, cross, square, diagonal lines, and triangle) develop in a predictable order before children successfully learn to write letters?

These simple strokes are actually building the foundation for handwriting and if they aren’t mastered, it makes forming letters on their own difficult - and these pre-writing strokes aren’t fully mastered until age 5!

Concerns about handwriting skills? Give us a call at 480-704-5954 📞
