Lindsey and Alicia were able to go to the Capitol yesterday and get our official Proclamation from Gov Hobbs; proclaiming March as Athletic Training Month! They also were able to meet with Rep. Liguori from LD5 to introduce themselves and talk about the profession.

Make sure you stay tuned— GAC is going to be working on a Capitol visit day for ATs this legislative session so ATs can meet and engage with their legislators!

We would love to introduce; Connie Weaver, MS, ATC, LAT
Retired from Sabino High School (after 25 years) and currently working at SAVAHCS (VA Hospital in Tucson) in the Prosthetics and Sensory Aids department, but not as an Athletic trainer. Has also continued to work as an Athletic Trainer for Tucson Orthopedic Institute doing Per diem work.
She is going on 39 years certified as an Athletic Trainer and currently serves on the Communications Committee.
Her favorite part of being an Athletic Trainer; "It is ALL about the relationships—with the athletes, with the coaches, with the student assistants, with administrators, parents, other faculty and staff at the institution of employment. Providing care day in and day out to the athletes include lots of happy times as well as those sad times. Wins and losses, ups and downs, sharing life with those who come to trust you and know you will always have their back. The greatest joys are seeing the athletes’ successes; on and off the field and then as they journey into adulthood. Nothing better than running in to one of your “kids” after 40 years!!!"

We would love to introduce; Megan Calderwood MS, AT, ATC
She currently works as an Athletic Training Specialist with Banner Sports Medicine in the clinic setting.
This is her 6th year as a certified athletic trainer
"My favorite part of being an athletic trainer is education! The vast knowledge we possess allows us to really break down anatomy and fully educate our patients on what is happening in the body and the "why" behind it. Ultimately knowledge is power and will help our patients be able to return to what they love to do. We not only play an integral part in our patients' recovery, but student education as well. Being able to be a preceptor helps to give back to future athletic trainers and share my passion for what we do!"

We would love to introduce; Rachel Geoghegan DAT, ATC
She currently works as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Athletic Training at A.T. Still University.
Number of years certified: "2026 is an anniversary for me: 20 years of certification!" She has also been a part of the AzATA Honors and Awards Committee as well as the NATA Foundation Pronouncements Committee.
Your favorite part of being an AT is "getting to walk alongside people through the full arc of an injury, not just the diagnosis. I love building trust with patients over time. From the “pre-injury” relationship, to the initial evaluation, to the messy middle of rehab, to return-to-activity decisions that actually fit their life. And as an educator, I get the same kind of satisfaction helping professional and post-professional students sharpen their clinical reasoning and keep leveling up as clinicians."
