It’s Tell-the-Truth Tuesday. In observance of ADHD Awareness Month, let’s squash a common myth about the condition.

❌ ADHD was merely invented by large pharmaceutical companies (“Big Pharma”) to rake in money.

✅ ADHD is a legitimate, medically recognized mental disorder that affects the brain’s ability to focus, manage impulses, and organize tasks. It’s not a made-up condition, a cumulative effect of poor parenting, a character flaw, or an issue that can simply be willed away. Without proper treatment, ADHD can have a sizable impact on relationships, family dynamics, daily functioning, and quality of life.

Think you need expert care for ADHD? Reach out to us at (480) 863-5250 to schedule an appointment with one of our caring mental health experts. We provide evidence-based, personalized care in a supportive, non-judgmental environment—helping you not just manage your symptoms but reach your full potential and lead a happy, fulfilling life just like everyone else.

🛑By the time you scroll past this post, someone in this country will have been choked, beaten, or slammed against a wall by someone they care about.

But what most people don’t see is the part after leaving. For many victims, escape is not the end, but the beginning of another battle—one that involves nursing gaping emotional wounds that continue to fester long after the physical bruises fade. For many others, leaving is so dangerous it can cost them their lives.

This National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, let’s confront this horrifying ordeal that countless people, especially women, endure every single day. Let’s stand with survivors and extend a lifeline to those still trapped, helping them find their way out before the situation reaches the point of no return.

If someone you know is a victim of domestic abuse and is in immediate danger, call 911 right away. Once they’re out of danger, gently encourage them to seek professional mental health support. In the Phoenix, AZ area, their go-to is one of our specialists here at 180 Mental Health and Wellness.

Through evidence-based care, including therapy, we help domestic violence victims develop the resilience and strength to rebuild their lives and reclaim the identity and future that abuse tried to erase. To schedule an appointment with one of our mental health experts, contact us at (480) 863-5250.

Today is Bi Visibility Day—a day to celebrate, uplift, and affirm bisexual identities. But let’s be honest: visibility for bisexual folks doesn’t always come easy.

More often than not, being "too gay" for some and "not gay enough" for others goes hand in hand with rejection and the constant need to prove oneself or shrink to fit in society’s “narrow boxes.” Over time, this can gnaw away at a person's mental health—and it shows in the statistics. Bisexual individuals are at greater risk of developing anxiety, depression, and PTSD compared to both their heterosexual and homosexual peers.

At 180 Mental Health and Wellness, we offer a compassionate space where you feel seen, valued, and understood, and your identity is never questioned—only honored. We’ll provide the tools and support you need to rebuild your self-esteem, embrace your identity with confidence, and live your truth fully, boldly, and unapologetically.

And we’re back with our myth-busting series! Today, we’re unpacking one of the most common myths surrounding obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

❌ People with OCD are “neat freaks.”
✅ OCD isn’t about being fixated on tidiness. It’s a mental health disorder characterized by unwanted, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions) aimed at relieving intense anxiety. Some people with OCD have zero cleanliness-related symptoms—their compulsions may involve constantly checking things to ensure safety, avoiding certain numbers, or repeating phrases in their minds.

Think you might be dealing with OCD? Reach out to us at (480) 863-5250 to schedule an appointment with one of our caring mental health experts. We provide evidence-based, personalized care in an environment where compassion, respect, and genuine connection reign supreme.

People don’t just wake up one day addicted. Addiction creeps and "robs" the person slowly. People who turn to drugs/alcohol do so not because they want to get addicted, but because they want to self-medicate—to numb their emotional pain or survive the invisible battles that come with untreated depression, anxiety, or trauma. So, unless we address the why, we’ll keep losing people to the what.

This National Recovery Month, we don’t just celebrate the people who have achieved sobriety—we also fight for and offer support to the ones still in the trenches because they are just as worthy.

If you’re struggling with addiction, know this: you are not beyond redemption, and the compassionate support, guidance, and care to help you find your way out are found right here at 180 Mental Health and Wellness.

When someone you care about seems to be contemplating su***de, what you say to them can mean the difference between dissuading them from taking their life or pushing them closer to the edge—so choose your words wisely.

Here’s what you should avoid telling someone with suicidal ideation:

🟥 “You’re just being dramatic.” - This dismisses their pain and amplifies shame.
🟥 ”Think positive.” - Telling someone to “think positive” while they’re suicidal is like giving a band-aid to someone with a stab wound.
🟥 “But you have so much to live for!”- That may be true, but it doesn’t address their suffering. It can only make them feel guilty for feeling the way they do.
🟥 “Other people have it worse.” - Pain is not a competition. This trivializes their feelings.
🟥 “Don’t be stupid.” - Suicidal ideation is not stupidity; it’s a symptom of REAL, overwhelming, and unfathomable pain.
🟥 “You’re just looking for attention.” - Regardless, it still needs to be heard.
🟥 “God won’t forgive you.” - Religious guilt can be extremely damaging in moments of crisis.
🟥 “You’re selfish.” - Most suicidal people believe they’re a burden to others. Accusing them of selfishness only reinforces that harmful belief.

Language matters – so make yours compassionate, validating, and life-giving.

If the person is in immediate danger of harming themself, stay with them and remove access to anything that they can use for self-harm. Contact 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline right away.
