Addictions!!!!!!!!!!
If you have never had a loved one who was an addict you are indeed fortunate. If you are like so many of us who have close family members with an addiction you have two options, push them away and expect them to quit or understand they are ADDICTED and can't quit on their own. Some would genuinely like to quit but when their body is craving drugs like you crave water on a hot day, (yes, the comparison is appropriate), it is quite a different matter.
There is hope! Be encouraged, there is hope! Rehab? they don't spend enough time in rehab to genuinely get it out of their system, I doubt the success rate is 10%, at least not in a month at rehab.
I had a close loved one who was going to rehab for the third time, they come away with all sorts of ideas they are going to go straight, all good intentions, only to sink back into the same rut after a week or so.
My loved one was facing their third trip to rehab when my daughter-in-law made the statement that her nutritionist could help her. I said, do you think so?, she said, "no, I know so".
Desperate for help I decided to try it. Yes, it would be an expense but how much is peace of mind worth? My loved one was willing to try anything, so we decided to give it a go. The nutritionist by means of a personal assessment put her on herbs and vitamins (tailored for her body needs), perhaps 2 weeks before her return to rehab. When she arrived at rehab and with only 2 weeks into her program, they could tell the difference at the facility and made it known to me, this time she would succeed, so much so that they became interested in what was taking place with her and wanted to hear more so they could recommend it to other patients.
They allowed her to take the herbs and vitamins with her, with a note from the nutritionist.
After her month at rehab, she returned to the nutritionist for an evaluation, this time she changed the dosage of herbs and vitamins to suit progress. This was done several times over the next year as her body recovered from the beaten it had taken using drugs.
Today she has been drug free for over 2 years and speaks freely to others about her recovery and the path she took.
Yes, there was some expense but cheap in comparison to the turmoil I suffered watching her deteriorate day by day, not to mention the worry if she was in jail, where was she staying, did she have food, was she even living? How much is peace of mind worth?
For us it was a God send, how thankful we are that someone opened our eyes to such a simple solution. It is wonderful to look at her today and the thankfulness we feel that we took the path we did to help her recover and become the person she is today.
