Happy Sunday!

Do you know how hard it is to actually live in the present moment?

So many of us live in the past, stuck in sadness or wishing things were still the way they used to be. We get so attached to our old things and our old ways that we refuse to move into the better places God has prepared for us.

Then there’s the future—living in a state of constant worry and anxiety. Living in the "back then" or the "what if" is not the way to live. That stress is exactly what brings "dis-ease" to our bodies. As Louise Hay says, our negative emotions and internal chaos eventually manifest in our nervous systems, our cortisol levels, and our physical health.

We have to be present.

We have to be present to the lessons life is teaching us right now.

Present to the way our bodies feel so we can offer them real nourishment.

We need to be present enough to ask: "Am I actually hungry, or am I just reaching for this Tw***ie to numb out?"

We need to be present enough to choose peace when someone cuts us off in traffic, rather than letting our ego take the wheel.

The more present we are, the more we are planting seeds for the future. We are becoming role models for the generations to come—showing them how to live with grace instead of fighting the world.

Let us help you find your inner peace. It’s already there, waiting for you to breathe it in!

Blessings,

Kary Sinkule CEO & Founder of Yoga's Arc

Meet the Teacher!

Please welcome Mel Gerard! Having completed our Yoga’s Arc Mentoring Program, Mel has since been sharing her passion and expertise with our community. As a dedicated instructor and Lead Teacher in our Yoga Teacher Trainings, Mel is committed to serving and inspiring others. We’re thrilled to have her as a guiding part of our team and are grateful for the impact she continues to make.

Here's a little bit about Mel...

Mel’s first Yoga class was in 2002 and she knew the Yogic life was her path. From asanas to Yogic wisdom and philosophy, she brings devotion and sensitivity to all her offerings. Her deepest wish is that everyone will listen to their heart’s whispers.

With every breath, Mel is a wife, mother, friend, Yoga teacher, and Bhakta. As an educator for a large healthcare organization, she continues to hone her teaching skills. As a Bhakta and Yoga student, she strives to provide her students an experiential and well-founded teaching. Mel weaves Yoga philosophy and mythology in her classes to inspire her students to embody the subtle energies in the asanas.

Mel graduated from Bhakti Nova School of Yoga 300hr in 2021. She continues to study and practice Yoga philosophy, Ayurveda, and meditation. She draws inspiration from the writings of Yoga philosophy, Sally Kempton and Dr. David Frawley. Jen Lo, Angie Hall and Mel’s beloved mentor Maa Nubia Teixeria continue to influence Mel’s practice and teachings.

Namaste Friends!

One of the most common things I see when coaching yoga teachers—and honestly, just humans in general—is the tendency to say "yes" way too much.

We pack our calendars until they’re bursting, we say yes to everyone who asks for a piece of us, and before we know it, our plates are so full that we’ve stopped taking care of ourselves. We end up hanging out with toxic people or choosing to build others up at the expense of standing up for ourselves.

In the yoga tradition, we talk about Ahimsa, which means non-harming. We usually think of this as how we treat others, but in my opinion, it starts at home. When we overextend ourselves, we are harming our own spirits. And the truth is, if we are harming ourselves through burnout and resentment, we eventually end up harming everyone around us, too.

Setting clear boundaries—with your calendar, your time, and even with your own feelings of victimhood—is the ultimate act of self-love. It’s how we protect our peace and reclaim our joy.

This week, remember: You don’t have to give it all away to be a good person. You can do anything, but you cannot do everything. Choose yourself first so that you have something real to give to the world!

Blessings,

Kary Sinkule CEO & Founder of Yoga's Arc

Meet the Behind-the-Scenes Team of Yoga’s Arc!

Meet Kami Neises! Kami plays an essential role at Yoga’s Arc, contributing both as an instructor and as part of our behind-the-scenes team. Whether she is leading a class or supporting our mission through her administrative work, she approaches everything she does with a loving dedication to our community.

Here’s a little bit about Kami…

Kami’s yoga journey began in 2010 by jumping straight into a 200-hour teacher training. As she simultaneously stepped into a new season of marriage and motherhood, her practice took a back seat—but the seed of yoga had been planted. In 2016, following a deep struggle with her mental health, Kami returned to her mat as a refuge in search of a path forward.

Through this return, she transformed fear and "dis-ease" into a profound sense of healing. Navigating a mental "rock bottom," she learned that her conscious breath was the most powerful tool she could find for regulating her nervous system—one that anchors her long after she leaves the mat. Today, this discovery is the foundation of every class she leads, as she guides her students to fall in love with their own breath to find internal calm and strength.

Since 2022, when she joined our inaugural teacher training class as an intern, Kami has grown into a valued leader at Yoga’s Arc. Today, she leads our Marketing Department, serves on the Foundation’s Board of Directors, and teaches our vulnerable populations. As a recent 2025 Yoga’s Arc 300-hour graduate, she is even more excited to continue sharing the transformative power of trauma-informed yoga—one breath at a time.

Reach out to learn more about our upcoming Teacher Training! It’s not too late to join.

Happy Sunday!

What is your favorite form of self-care?

According to Thich Nhat Hanh, “If we do not know how to take care of ourselves and to love ourselves, we cannot take care of the people we love. Loving oneself is the foundation for loving another person.”

Self-care is an act of self-love. How can we show love for others when we don't start with ourselves?

Why is Self-Care so hard?
"I don't have time..."
"It's too expensive..."
"I don't like to slow down; running and bootcamp is my jam..."
"My kids come first..."
"But I need to work for money for my ________..."

What is your excuse?

There are always excuses to not take care of ourselves, but maybe self-care doesn't have to be so elaborate or take so much time.

How about trying...
A 5-minute soak in the sun.
Sitting in a quiet space: soften your gaze and breathe slowly for a few minutes.
Sitting at a coffee shop with a beverage to people-watch for 30 minutes before running errands.
A manicure.
Painting a picture.

Commit to trying one new self-care act this week. Maybe it will help us show a little more love—which this world needs more of!

Blessings,

Kary Sinkule CEO & Founder of Yoga's Arc

Strike a Pose!

Did you know that Malasana, or Seated Squat, is not only a yoga pose but also a natural resting position for many people around the world? This posture closely resembles Balasana (Child’s Pose), but instead of being inverted on the mat, we’re sitting upright.

Practicing Seated Squat regularly can do wonders for your body. It helps open the hips and lower back, easing tension in the ankles, knees, and hip flexors. This pose offers a fantastic full-body stretch and is an excellent alternative way to sit!

Not quite there yet? No worries! Start by sitting on a block (or two) for support as you work toward the pose. Practicing Child’s Pose can also help your body gradually adjust and prepare for Malasana.

Give it a try—your body will thank you!

At Yoga’s Arc, we bridge that gap.

This training equips you to be a trauma-informed instructor with the specialized skills needed to adapt your practice to any body with any ability. We provide the technical mastery you need, including training in mirror imaging to effectively and clearly lead students with varied mobility.

You’ll gain hands-on opportunities to teach at our Yoga at the Markets, receiving personalized feedback in a live community setting.

We don’t just train you—we hire you. We connect our graduates with fulfilling career opportunities where heart-centered, inclusive teaching makes a profound difference.

Yoga’s Arc

We were born out of a passion for outreach. After practicing yoga for the last 20 years, Kary Sinkule began wondering how she could bring yoga to those who need it most- the overworked, the unable, and the under-served. To reach these people, convenience was the name of the game. The movement had to be fueled by flexibility and a willingness to join people in every step of the journey. So we thought outside the four walls of our studio and created Yoga's Arc.

A year later, we're even more energized to keep changing the mindset of what yoga can look like. To us, yoga looks like coworkers sharing in morning rejuvenation. Yoga looks like a healing breakthrough for a stroke survivor in her own living room. Yoga looks exactly how you envision it. With more than 20 instructors across the Valley, we're growing fast, and we're excited to meet you wherever you are in your yoga journey.
