It Doesn't Matter What You Do, Just Do Something!

"You can't cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water." - Rabindranath Tagore

I remember at one Sales Convention back in the day when I sold nutritional products, one of our business coaches would say, it doesn't matter what you do to work towards your goal, just do something!

This quote kind of feels like that blank stare when we see a list of all the things we need to accomplish and don't know where to start. Many times when we are in this predicament, we either:

Fight by making it more difficult for ourselves. Why is it that sometimes we fight the tasks to the goal by talking ourselves out of it, telling us all the reasons why we can't accomplish it, and sabotaging the entire adventure? We "flight", by doing something off-topic which is usually procrastinating by picking up some non-productive habits. We freeze and waste precious time not knowing what to do, so we do nothing. This is usually done by staring at a screen or excessive sleeping and eating. The fourth parasympathetic nervous system reaction that can pour into our lives is now called "fawn" or people pleasing. This is usually done by saying "yes" to every person that reaches out and asks for anything, and answering every phone call from people who need you.

Just like the quote says, we can't cross the sea by merely staring at the water (in this case freezing). There are things we can do to help us "cross the sea" in terms of accomplishing our goals and dreams by making sure we don't just stare at the water.

We at Yoga's Arc use the Full Focus Planner system and embrace implementing more systems (thank you WBENC and EOS) to make our sea crossing easier each day as we continue to bring more yoga to more people.

What are you willing to do to cross your sea??

Strike a Pose: Revolved Lunge

Twist and detox with Revolved Lunge (Parivrtta Anjaneyasana)! This posture is more than a simple stretch—it’s an internal massage for the body.

What This Pose Offers

Boost Detoxification: The twisting action of this pose stimulates circulation and lymphatic flow, which are the body's natural systems for removing waste and toxins. This aids the internal organs in their cleansing processes.

Release Stress & Tension: The deep rotation of the spine helps to release physical tension. Meanwhile, the mindful focus on the breath helps calm the nervous system, which is crucial for reducing chronic stress—a major factor that can hinder the body's natural detoxification mechanisms.

Energize the Organs: The gentle compression and release in the abdominal region act as an internal massage, potentially stimulating and revitalizing organs like the liver, kidneys, and digestive system. This can improve circulation and promote healthier digestion.

Nurture Your Adrenals: How Meditation and Yoga Calm Your Core

The fast pace of modern life often leaves our adrenal glands in a constant state of "fight or flight." This can lead to chronic stress and burnout. But what if we could shift our bodies into "rest and digest" mode?

Practices like meditation and restorative yoga are powerful tools for calming the nervous system and nurturing our adrenal health. They're not just about physical flexibility; they're about giving our bodies a much-needed break.

Here’s how they help:

Meditation: Help regulate cortisol levels and train the mind to reduce anxiety.

Restorative Yoga: Uses props to support the body in gentle poses, signaling it's safe to relax and release tension.

Deep Breathing: Directly activates the parasympathetic nervous system, counteracting stress.

By incorporating these practices, you're actively supporting your body's ability to cope with stress, leading to a more balanced and resilient you.

Getting Comfortable with Anger

"Anger is that powerful internal force that blows out the light of reason." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Anger is important to allow and experience when it occurs. From my counseling background, I was always taught that the sum of fear and sadness is anger. We spend so much time pretending to not be scared or sad (how many times do we hear people say "Don't Cry" for example). We could instead embrace and get comfortable with these emotions so we learn how to cope with them and how to respond when they come up.

If we don't, the next thing you know, we start getting more and more angry. It builds momentum, and the outbursts feel relieving at first, but then we need to reflect on our actions to make sure we aren't hurting anyone along the way.

Unfortunately, anger causes us to react vs reflect and the next thing you know we are unintentionally or intentionally hurting someone. This is when we need to step up and reflect on what happened, take responsibility, and connect with those we hurt to try to explain what is happening along with an apology. This practice in itself will help you connect to your emotions on a deeper level without being afraid to explore them.

Did you know that this is what meditation is for? It sure is! We hang out by ourselves to pay attention to what is going on internally and be curious about any emotions without judgment. We hope you will give it a try!

Strike a Pose!

Goddess Pose, also known as Utkata Konasana, is a powerful squat that has become a staple in modern yoga. While not an ancient pose, it draws inspiration from traditional practices to create a posture that is both physically and mentally empowering.

Here are just a few benefits...

Strengthen & Empower:

Build lower-body strength: Activate and tone your legs, glutes, hips, and core for a stable and powerful foundation.

Open the hips: Improve flexibility and increase your range of motion in the hips and groin.

Boost confidence: Ground yourself with a posture that builds a sense of inner strength and power.

Mind & Body Connection:

Improve balance: Challenge your stability while cultivating focus and presence.

Find inner calm: Reduce stress and quiet your mind.

Energize your body: Stimulate digestion and improve circulation.

Practice Makes Better, Never Perfect!

"The formula for success is simple: practice and concentration , then more practice and more concentration." - Babe Didrikson Zaharias

We have all heard the stories of all the people that have paved the ways for all the amazing amenities we have in our world today: airplanes, light, the telephone, automobiles, computers and so much more. In all the biographies and autobiographies we read or listen to about the inventors and creators or pro-athletes, we always hear about how many times they all failed or had to practice over and over again to finally succeed. It is never an overnight success.

As Babe Didrikson Zaharias states in his quote, success is truly practice and concentration over and over again, so it continues to always get better, not feeling as though we ever have to get it perfect, and what a relief that is!

Whatever it is in life you want to be successful at, give yourself permission to choose to set your goals as to what you can control, vs to be perfect at your practice. For example, if you want to get better at meditating, set a goal for a certain amount of times per week for so many minutes to practice meditation vs practicing not thinking and getting frustrated when we have the monkey mind. Over time and consistency it will become a habit to always strive to do better.

Set your goals and never give up! There are so many resources, apps and books to help you with this topic, and know we are routing for you!!!

Yoga’s Arc

We were born out of a passion for outreach. After practicing yoga for the last 20 years, Kary Sinkule began wondering how she could bring yoga to those who need it most- the overworked, the unable, and the under-served. To reach these people, convenience was the name of the game. The movement had to be fueled by flexibility and a willingness to join people in every step of the journey. So we thought outside the four walls of our studio and created Yoga's Arc.

A year later, we're even more energized to keep changing the mindset of what yoga can look like. To us, yoga looks like coworkers sharing in morning rejuvenation. Yoga looks like a healing breakthrough for a stroke survivor in her own living room. Yoga looks exactly how you envision it. With more than 20 instructors across the Valley, we're growing fast, and we're excited to meet you wherever you are in your yoga journey.
