Your Holiday Stress Survival Kit: The Power of Mala Beads

The holiday season is a beautiful time, but let's be honest—it’s also a marathon of to-do lists, crowded stores, and family obligations that can leave your nervous system frazzled.

If you’re looking for a simple, portable tool to ground yourself and reclaim your center in the chaos, reach for your mala beads.

What is a Mala?

A mala is a string of 108 beads traditionally used in meditation to count breaths or mantras. It's not just jewelry; it’s an anchor for your attention.

Why Use Them During the Holidays?

Instant Focus: When your mind starts racing over shopping lists or awkward conversations, simply holding the beads pulls your attention back to the present moment.

Repetitive Calm: Moving your thumb over each bead establishes a repetitive, rhythmic movement—a natural soothing mechanism for the "fight or flight" response.

Mindful Pause: It forces you to take a non-negotiable mental break, even if only for 60 seconds, which can prevent overwhelm.

How to Practice:

Hold the mala in one hand. Starting next to the Guru bead (the large center bead), use your thumb to gently pull the first bead toward you. Close your eyes and repeat a simple phrase like, “I am calm,” or “Breathe in, breathe out.” Move to the next bead and repeat.

Make your mala your holiday grounding tool! Give yourself the gift of presence this year.

Meet the Teacher!

We are delighted to introduce the newest amazing instructor joining our team! Please help us give a warm welcome to the wonderful Lisa Horne, the newest member of the Yoga's Arc teaching family. She brings a spirit of deep passion and genuine love for the practice, and we couldn't be more excited to have her join our community.

Here's a little bit about Lisa...

Lisa Horne finds her deepest connection to yoga outdoors, surrounded by fresh air and open skies. Her family’s love of RV travel and camping takes them to breathtaking National and State Parks, where some of her most peaceful and inspiring yoga practices unfold.

A Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) and Certified Holistic Nutritionist, Lisa is also certified in Sound Bath Healing, Breathwork, Yoga for Kids, Chair Yoga, Guided Meditation, Hatha and Restorative Yoga.

Her yoga journey began in 2008 after the birth of her first child, when she turned to yoga as a grounding path back to strength and well-being. What began as self-care later became a calling to guide others.

A lifelong educator with experience teaching Pre-K through 12th grade, Lisa holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing and has an extensive background in radio, television, and writing for publications including Simon & Schuster and WebMD.

Rooted deeply in Arizona, Lisa and her husband are raising their five sixth-generation Arizonan children on their family farm where open skies, orchard breezes, and mindful living inspire her practice. When not practicing yoga, she can be found reading, crocheting, cooking, baking or spending time with family on the farm along with their dogs, cats, hens, goats, donkeys, and horses.

Happy Sunday,

Why is it so hard to fight cravings??

"One who has pulled out the roots of craving is fulfilled and free." Bhante Sujatha

This is the time of year where we all start out on a healthy path after enjoying a variety of indulgences over the holidays. We get off to a good start then all of a sudden here comes an unexpected craving that we are trying so hard to resist. You are not alone, temptation is something we all encounter in one way or another.

This is where we can pull out our meditation tool and take a few minutes to meditate on why we are craving what we are craving? Here are some things you can remind or ask yourself:

1. How long will the sensation of the craving that you enjoy last?

2. Does the craving bring a negative or positive effect to my body short term and long term?

3. Is it worth it at this given moment? If you are able to walk away, take 5 minutes to meditate on the craving to get to the root of it. This way you have made a decision with freedom versus basing it on attachment.

Another good reminder if you are starting a new habit: Remember that it takes up to 3 weeks to make or break a habit. Give yourself permission to have setbacks, it is part of the journey!

Don't judge or shame yourself when this occurs, just simply begin again.

Blessings,

Kary Sinkule, CEO & Founder of Yoga's Arc

Strike a Pose!

Bridge Pose (Setubandhasana) is a powerful yoga posture that strengthens the core, engages the lower back, glutes, and abs, and supports healthy posture and spine alignment. Ideal for countering the effects of a sedentary lifestyle, this pose stretches the chest, neck, and spine while toning the legs and glutes, enhancing lower body strength and stability.

Beyond the physical benefits, Bridge Pose helps relieve stress and anxiety, bringing calm and promoting heart-opening energy. Its gentle neck compression stimulates the thyroid, aiding in metabolism and energy balance, while increased blood flow to the brain boosts focus and concentration. For respiratory health, Bridge Pose also benefits those with asthma or sinus concerns.

Integrating Bridge Pose into your yoga practice can lead to greater physical and mental balance. Yoga’s Arc can support you on this journey to wellness with customized classes tailored to your needs.

Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday—a pivotal moment to secure the resources needed to continue our vital mission.

Your commitment to the Yoga's Arc Foundation ensures that breathwork and self-discovery reach individuals navigating challenging times, providing essential tools for resilience and hope.

When you contribute, your hard-earned funds go directly to programs that deliver genuine, life-changing support. For example, your contributions sustain vital partnerships like the one with the Pinal County Adolescent Detention Center, where we provide young individuals with therapeutic practices that aid in recovery.

We ask you to consider making a generous contribution tomorrow, on Giving Tuesday. Every dollar delivers hope and resilience where it is needed most. As a foundation, your financial support is tax-deductible.

This holiday season, give back the profound gift of breath and inner peace.

You can contribute directly via the link below and specify exactly which program you would like your contribution to support.

Thank you for your partnership and your dedication to wellness for all.

Meet the Teacher!

We are thrilled to celebrate Sarah Rose, a proud pioneer of the Yoga's Arc 2022 Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) cohort!

Since completing her 200-hour training, Sarah has devoted herself to making a real difference in vulnerable communities. Her commitment shines through her work at the Sojourner Center and her participation in various community events. We are incredibly grateful for Sarah's dedication, which perfectly embodies the mission of our yoga community.

Here is a little bit about Sarah...

Sarah Rose’s yoga practice began in 2009 when she picked up a Rodney Yee Yoga DVD- fortuitously set atop a beautiful southwest canyon. Fast forward to 2021 when Sarah spontaneously lead informal daily yoga while on a river rafting trip down the Grand Canyon, this inspired her to obtain her 200 hr Yoga Teacher certification, which she completed in 2022 with Yoga’s Arc.

Sarah loves sharing yoga with those new and old to the practice, young and wise. Her favorite place to practice is in the great outdoors! She hopes to lead her students to find a little more stillness, peace, and light through their practice.

11/30/2025

Happy Sunday,

Have you ever paid attention to how often we hold our breath? Concentrating at the computer, reading something shocking or slamming on our breaks last minute? So many times we don't even realize that we are breathing, which causes everything to wander... breath, thoughts, mind and body.

Notice that every time you focus on breathing, you begin to breath with intention. This leads to longer, present inhales and exhales, filling our entire lung space with breath, which does so much to help us regroup, focus, and stay present.

As the quote by ~Hatha Yoga Pradipika states... "When the Breath wanders, the Mind is unsteady, but when the Breath is still, so is the mind still."

Breathe and Be Still, and notice the magic that happens. Let us help you find your breath.

Blessings,

Kary Sinkule, CEO & Founder of Yoga's Arc

A Moment of Openness and Gratitude

As the year winds down, we invite a posture that mirrors the abundance we are thankful for: a heart-opening moment.

This simple movement—raising our arms and gently expanding the chest—does more than just stretch the shoulders. Physically, this action encourages a healthy flow, helping to lift and expand the rib cage and allowing fresh blood to circulate more easily towards the heart center. It's a gentle physical invitation to feel lighter and more energized!

The Deeper Benefit of Heart Openers:
In yoga, a heart opener is a posture of vulnerability and trust. When we allow the shoulders to relax back and the chest to lift:

We Invite Gratitude: This pose is an act of receiving, physically embodying the feeling of being thankful for the gifts in our lives.

We Release Tension: The upper back and chest are common places where stress and worry are held. Opening this area can release that stored tension, creating emotional space.

We Connect to Joy: By gently expanding our heart space, we tap into a natural feeling of joy and connection, ready to share our light with the world.

Let's pause today and lift our gaze towards the sky. Breathe deep into the spaciousness we create, and silently list a few things we are truly grateful for this season.

What is one thing that has truly opened your heart this week? Share your gratitude below!

We look forward to welcoming you to an upcoming Community or Ticketed Class!

Yoga’s Arc

We were born out of a passion for outreach. After practicing yoga for the last 20 years, Kary Sinkule began wondering how she could bring yoga to those who need it most- the overworked, the unable, and the under-served. To reach these people, convenience was the name of the game. The movement had to be fueled by flexibility and a willingness to join people in every step of the journey. So we thought outside the four walls of our studio and created Yoga's Arc.

A year later, we're even more energized to keep changing the mindset of what yoga can look like. To us, yoga looks like coworkers sharing in morning rejuvenation. Yoga looks like a healing breakthrough for a stroke survivor in her own living room. Yoga looks exactly how you envision it. With more than 20 instructors across the Valley, we're growing fast, and we're excited to meet you wherever you are in your yoga journey.
