Podiatrists Top Ten Tips in the New Year for Foot Health
1. Starting that weight loss journey in the New Year? Start out slow. Don’t try to lose weight all at once. Do a little bit more each month over time to avoid foot injuries such as stress fractures, ankle sprains and plantar fasciitis that will only sideline your game and make you more frustrated.
2. If you have Diabetes and have never gotten a foot exam, get one today! Learn what you can do to prevent diabetic foot complications. Instead of worrying about limb loss, take control of your foot health as soon as possible.
3. Have you ever noticed your child limping, avoiding activities or concerned about flat feet? Seek consultation with your local foot specialist. Children with foot pain miss out on opportunities to play! Playing is important to both physical skills and social skills, which are important to a child’s development and well-being.
4. Wear good shoes. Wearing shoes that bend easily from heel-to-toe or can be wrung out like a towel do not provide enough support, and can lead to many foot complaints including stress fractures, plantar fasciitis and neuromas.
5. If your bunion continues to grow and be painful, seek consultation early! Waiting too long to address a bunion deformity can lead to serious foot ulcerations and limb complications if left untreated.
6. Walk regularly and increase your mileage gradually. This increases the blood flow to your legs.
7. Inspect your feet for cracks and breaks in the skin daily, and while you are at it, check your shoes inside and outside for objects that may cause harm.
8. Quit trying to fix your own ingrown nail; home remedies don’t work. Podiatrists are trained on how to fix them permanently because they were taught the anatomy and proper techniques necessary to do so.
9. If you notice a foot problem, seek help early and avoid self-treatment.
10. Share this with a friend. It might make a big difference in their life!

Why Won’t My Plantar Fasciitis Improve? 🏃♀️👟
While plantar fascia is more flexible than bone, and able to interact with the ground, it has additional inherent weaknesses that make the healing process more difficult. Unlike muscle and bone, plantar fascia tissue is ill-nourished by the blood stream. This limits the ligament’s ability to heal from injury, ultimately extending the length of time in which the plantar fasciitis needs to heal.
Wearing the right shoes is an important factor when lessening plantar fascial pain! Make sure to select a supportive pair of shoes with a stiff sole. This will hopefully help to relieve the stress on the plantar fascial band and speed up recovery.
We recommend that you make an appointment with us so we can ensure that you are on the right path. For more information and a one-on-one visit about your plantar fasciitis recovery plan, schedule an appointment with our office.

Valley Foot Care, Inc. was founded in 1997 by Dr. Marisa Haddad and Dr. Timothy Sekosky. Our practice is centrally located in Phoenix, Arizona and is easily accessible by nearly all freeways in the Valley.
At Valley Foot Care, Inc., we enjoy caring for you and providing honest, straight-forward treatment plans to get you back on your feet! That allows you to do the things you love the most, whether it is caring for your family, exercising, working or traveling. As your doctors, we understand what it is like to have foot pain and how it can interfere with your life. In fact, both of our doctors changed their career directions after experiencing foot pain, so we understand what you are going through, and want to get you back on your feet as soon as possible to enjoy your life again!
We will take the time to listen to your foot complaints and arrive at a solution that best suits your individual needs. Both doctors are devoted to attempting conservative treatment before surgery, and leaving surgery to those cases when conservative measures have failed. Besides treating acute injuries and painful conditions, both doctors emphasize prevention in their treatment plans to avoid recurrence. Similarly, in these days of high deductible insurance plans with high out-of-pocket costs, both doctors will work with you to consider the best cost options in your treatment plan. This includes the imaging we order, medications we prescribe or devices that may be needed. We do our best to order only what is really needed and medically necessary because we understand that this is important to you.
As your doctors, we also know that unexpected events come up during which time is of the essence. Whether you are new to us or have been an established patient for many years, we will always do whatever it takes to get you seen as soon as possible when you are in need. We are open Monday through Friday 9am – 5pm; however, on select days have later hours to fit your work and family schedules.
Both doctors are Board Certified and enjoy all aspect of foot care. Dr. Sekosky is Board Certified by the American Board of Wound Healing as well as the American Board of Medical Specialties in Podiatry. He is also a Fellow of the American Professional Wound Care Association. He has been recognized by his peers as one of Phoenix’s Top Docs. He enjoys working with custom arch supports, helping the elderly with routine foot maintenance, and speaking Spanish with his Hispanic population. Dr. Haddad is Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Professional Wound Care Association. She enjoys diabetic wound care and providing comprehensive podiatric care to patients of all ages, including children and patients with special needs.
