The fascia is the catcher’s mitt.
It absorbs impact, shapes itself around what it catches, and holds the memory of every throw. Old mitts are literally molded by their history, and so is fascia. Every bracing, every grip, every time you made yourself small, it is in there.
It has to be broken in to work well. Too stiff and it can’t receive. That is the whole practice, softening so you can actually catch life again.
And the catcher sees the whole field. Largely invisible. Receives everything.
Here is what is important to understand. The body is not broken. It is loyal. It held what you could not process at the time. The tension was protection, not failure.
So when skilled hands, breath, warmth, stillness, sound, or sustained gentle presence meet the tissue, something remarkable happens. Fascia begins to release after about 90 to 120 seconds of contact. You cannot rush it. That is actually the lesson built into the tissue itself.
This is exactly where Yoga Nidra enters. When you drop into that deep state of conscious rest, the nervous system releases the charge it has been holding. And it is that charge, that low hum of unresolved tension, that has been keeping the fascia contracted. Yoga Nidra does not work on the fascia directly. It works on the condition that has been keeping the fascia from letting go. The body finally gets the signal that it is safe. And safety is the only thing fascia has ever been waiting for.
That is why bodywork feels so good. That is why there is that sense of release and let go. You are not just relaxing muscle. You are giving the tissue permission to stop holding what it has been carrying, sometimes for years.
You don’t throw out an old mitt. You oil it, work it, warm it up. You honor what it absorbed and you keep playing.

🌞 Hello friends! 🌞

I realized I’ve never actually said hello here. I just got back from Breckenridge, feeling so grateful for time with family and the beauty of the mountains. That sense of renewal is exactly what I hope to offer in the spaces I create here in Phoenix.

I’m a healing practitioner (massage, yoga nidra, sound, and more) and I’m even exploring a space in the historic Heard Building downtown. It would be such an honor to hold space for healing, rest, and connection there. ❤️‍🩹

Thank you for being here. I’d love to know — what restores you when life gets busy?
