What Parents Need to Know About OCR Case Dismissals:
The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) is dismissing thousands of school discrimination complaints, many involving disability rights, faster than before.
Why this is happening:
Federal staffing cuts and office closures have left fewer people available to investigate complaints. As a result, many concerns are being closed early or not investigated at all.
What this means for families:
• Delays in investigations
• Fewer protections enforced
• Less accountability for schools
What you can do:
📌 Keep records of everything
📌 Know your child’s rights (504 & IDEA)
📌 Work closely with your school
📌 File a state complaint if needed
You are not alone. Families have power, and we're here to support you every step of the way.

Our mission is strengthening families and systems of care to improve the lives of children with disabilities. For more than 40 years, Raising Special Kids has been helping Arizona families of children with disabilities and special health care needs to find hope and build resilience.
As Arizona’s federally designated Parent Training and Information Center, we help inform families about their rights and responsibilities in special education.
Through our parent-to-parent program, the heart of our organization, we connect parents with trained parent leaders who have ‘been there’ and can offer knowledgeable guidance and compassionate understanding.
When a child receives an unexpected diagnosis, we help families navigate health care systems to ensure their child receives the assistance available to them.
Almost every staff member at Raising Special Kids is a parent of a child with a disability. We are truly families helping families.
