Introducing Alexys McQueary, MSN, RN, IBCLC, Educator…

From a young age, Alexys knew she wanted to dedicate her career to working with infants. Her passion for infant care inspired her to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) immediately after high school. She graduated with honors from Grand Canyon University in 2014, then went on to complete her Master’s in Nursing and earned her certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

Alexys finds joy in sharing her expertise and providing compassionate care, especially during the intimate moments that come with raising a newborn. Through her experiences with her own two babies, she understands the importance of trust in a lactation consultation and works to create a safe and supportive space for each client.

She is CPR and First Aid certified and has over 8 years of experience in Community Health in-home care, supporting mothers and their infants. She has also worked extensively with premature and substance-exposed newborns, adding depth to her knowledge and sensitivity in specialized infant care.

Many mothers believe they can eat whatever they want during pregnancy…

“I’m going to get larger anyway”

Who has heard that before or maybe even thought it?

Well this is the furthest thing from the truth and you must nourish your body during pregnancy and continuing through your postpartum journey, especially while breastfeeding your little one.

You always want to make sure you are eating a well-balanced diet filled with whole nutrient densed foods. Each meal should contain lots of vegetables and/or fruits, a quarter of your plate filled with desired protein and another quarter with a healthy starch food.

Along your journey as a nursing mother, you will probably question your milk supply. It can seem as if you have finally gotten into a groove/routine that is working and then suddenly everything changes. Your baby might be nursing more often, nursing at both breasts when usually they only nurse on one side, or appear to even be on a nursing strike.

Just remember that these “milk slumps” will not be permanent. Keep nursing and stay consistent through these growth spurts and behavioral changes.

Of course at anytime, you can reach out to your lactation coach for assistance with questions and/or support.
