On March 1, Jewish Family & Children's Service welcomed community members to another Living Room Conversation in our Salon Series for a thought provoking discussion titled The Reality Gap, facilitated by housing specialist and human services advocate Nichole Stevens. Together, participants explored the complex realities of poverty and the trauma, systemic barriers, and life circumstances that can quickly destabilize individuals and families. The conversation offered powerful insights into the challenges many people face when navigating support systems and why compassionate, accessible services are so critical. Read our full blog (link below) to learn more about the discussion and the important role JFCS plays in helping individuals and families regain stability and hope.

🎄 DAY 12 — The Work Continues

On this day of reflection, connection, and hope, we close our 12 Days of Hope by remembering that while the series ends today…

the need in our community does not.

Tomorrow begins again.
And in the 353 days ahead, someone in Maricopa County will need counseling, safety, stability, healing, or a compassionate presence during a difficult moment.

Because of YOU, JFCS is here.

Thank you for walking with us through these stories, and thank you for making hope possible not just during the holidays, but all year long.

Your Gift = Access to Care.

DAY 11 — Imagine Maricopa County Without JFCS

Imagine Maricopa County without JFCS.

No therapy for struggling teens.
No support for DV survivors.
No companionship for isolated seniors.
No career assistance for determined young adults.
No holiday Adopt-a-Family.
No chaplain beside a hospital bed.

Now imagine the opposite — imagine what’s possible because YOU care.

Please consider making a gift to JFCS so that we can continue to help those in need in 2026. https://www.jfcsaz.org/donate/

DAY 10 — Medicaid Reality Day

For 15 years, Medicaid behavioral health reimbursement rates have not increased in Arizona.

And in October of 2024, the 8-minute rule further reduced what providers can bill for essential care.

The need continues to rise.
Funding does not.

Your support helps ensure that cost never becomes a barrier to care for individuals and families who rely on JFCS.

DAY 9 — Parent & Family Support

A mother told us:
“JFCS helped me become the parent I wanted to be.”

Through counseling, skills training, and wraparound support, families gain the tools they need to communicate, connect, and thrive together.

You strengthen families — one hopeful story at a time.

Your Gift = Access to Care.

DAY 8 — Real World Job Development Graduation

🎓 Graduation Day: New Futures Begin

In October, youth and young adults in our Real World Job Development Program walked across the stage in caps and gowns at Pulliam Auditorium, many earning their GED or completing certifications in high-demand healthcare fields.

Medical Assistant. Dental Assistant. Phlebotomy. Ortho Tech. And more.

They gave speeches. The audience cheered. Volunteers from For Goodness Cakes sent each graduate home with beautiful cupcakes.

Take a look at the photos. Many decorated their caps, one saying "If you knew my story, you'd be proud." Many of these young people have not had an easy life, some living in multiple foster care group homes.

These youth aren’t statistics - they are futures.
And you helped them get here.

Your Gift = Access to Care.

When Stephanie found the courage to report the abuse she had endured for more than a decade, she wasn’t sure what would come next. After a violent incident sent her to the hospital, the City of Phoenix referred her to JFCS, a name she had never heard before.

“To be honest, I didn’t know how it worked or the impact it would have on my life to receive support from JFCS,” she said. “But from the beginning, I felt seen, supported, and safe.”

Through our Shelter Without Walls program, Stephanie received the help she needed to navigate the loss of financial stability, the legal challenges of divorce, and the complex process of seeking immigration protections. The team also helped her secure safe and stable housing for herself and her young son, giving them both the chance to rebuild their lives free from violence.

With guidance, resources, and compassionate care, Stephanie began reclaiming her confidence and rebuilding her future.

“My case manager saw me not just as a client, but as a woman who had been deeply hurt,” she said. “She helped me recognize my worth and face the challenges ahead.”

Stephanie knows her journey is bigger than her own story.

“These services don’t just help individuals,” she shared. “They help entire families and shape a better future for our children.”

Her message to other women experiencing abuse is simple and powerful:
“You can always count on JFCS. I’m beyond grateful.”

Your support makes stories like Stephanie’s possible.

DAY 6 — Jewish Programs & Chaplaincy

Our Jewish Programs ensure that community members stay connected through tradition, culture, learning, and meaningful support. Whether it’s engaging holiday experiences, educational programs, or opportunities to come together socially, JFCS helps individuals feel rooted, seen, and included.

Our Chaplaincy Program extends that same sense of spiritual care and connection into 25 hospitals throughout the Valley. JFCS chaplains provide comfort, presence, and ritual support during some of life’s most significant and challenging moments.

Together, these programs help keep community, identity, and compassion alive, especially for those who may otherwise feel isolated.

Your generosity makes this possible.
Your Gift = Access to Care.
