There comes a point where you think you can’t do it anymore. No more breathing through surges, no more positive affirmations, no more sips of water, no more digging deep. And then, just like that, you’re holding your sweet baby in your arms and it is all so totally worth it.

Hey new parents! Listen up. I know you feel like you have all the time in the world; and I know you roll your eyes at people like me who remind you that the days are long but the years are short…but this is what happens to the tiny baby as the years sneak by.

They grow up.

We take it all for granted even though we say we won’t. The noise, the mess, the fights, the laughs - it’s all temporary. We get 18 summers to take it all in. You don’t have to love every moment - there’s lots of moments that are so dang hard. Just cherish the experience and don’t say we didn’t warn you. ♥️

✨ Counter pressure! ✨

Ohhh how we love counter pressure! 💙 It decreases tension in the ligaments and relieves some of the pain from a contraction (yay!). Not only can you use it during labor, but it can feel really good during pregnancy too! It can be done by pressing on the low back like this, or in other ways like a double hip squeeze. 🥰

TRUE OR FALSE: Baby can drown or die if born in the water.

ANSWER: False, false, false!

Did you know that babies will not breathe until they are exposed to air? When a baby is born in the water, if any liquid is “inhaled”, the larynx instinctively closes when water passes by, and the water would be swallowed instead of inhaled.

A thing called the Dive Reflex prevents them from taking a breath until they’re out in open air. When the facial skin receptors come into contact with the oxygen and carbon dioxide in the air, along with cooler temperatures, the breathing movements get started.

Isn’t that just so dang cool!?

Weeks and weeks and WEEKS of prodromal labor left mama uncertain when to call the team. Thankfully, dad knew something was up and made the call. Little lady! Even straight up OP - you were still in some big hurry! What a story!

Growing up, if your family wasn’t already pro-birth, you likely learned most of what you knew from TV or movies. They usually show a woman in pain, racing into the hospital at the last minute, laying on her back hooked up to all of the machines, screaming.

Very rarely would they ever show an empowered mama calmly working through her surges, moving around the room however felt right, listening to her body. They wouldn’t show her laboring at home or in a birth center, and they definitely didn’t show her with all of this freedom in a hospital.

It’s no wonder that most mamas have no idea that they can — and SHOULD — get up and move around to bring that baby down! There are so many important benefits that freedom of movement brings.

When women move during labor:
• The pelvic outlet is enlarged making pushing easier
• Oxygen levels to the baby are increased
• Pain is decreased
• The length of labor is decreased
• So much more!

So tell us… what was your experience with movement during labor? Were you “allowed” to move where you labored? Did you even want to? What was your favorite position?

Hi everyone! I’m Ashley!

I’ve spent most of of my life in North Phoenix, but my journey into the world of midwifery started in 2019 when I moved to the Philippines for 3 years to serve families in a charity birth center. During my time there, I was able to serve and love on hundreds of families and had the opportunity to welcome so many sweet babies into the world. I truly feel that midwifery allows me the greatest honor and joy of walking alongside mommas and their families in all kinds of seasons as they prepare to bring new life into the world!

My connection with Jetta is special — the midwife who delivered her first baby was one of my teachers for a short time! We met and connected instantly.

When I’m not with families, I love to go hiking, spend time gardening, go country dancing, and spend time with my church community!

I’m looking forward to meeting each of you and getting to be a small part of your story 💛
