re-read slide #5 as much as you need 💜

Well. The day has finally come. My first student loan bill in 3 years is due today.

And if I’m being honest the emotion that comes up the most is…annoyance 🙄

I am genuinely just annoyed I have to pay these things LOL anyone else?

💰 Anyways, so I’ve been adjusting my student loan repayment plan and reworking our family budget for this added bill (more on that in another post)

And I had a conversation with hubby about what we wish we knew before taking these loans out 😳 and a LOT came up

So much so that you may just be seeing this topic on the podcast 👀

I wanted to share a few things we discussed and hear from you, what are some things you wish you knew?

𝐈’𝐯𝐞 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞…𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮

That is what one of my [amazing] blueprint members said to me during our 1:1 coaching call and (I didn’t show it) but it completely choked me up 🥺

Money is emotional. Money forces us to think about our childhood, our family, our upbringing, our dreams, goals, and aspirations.

Now imagine…

Ask us how many times we each had to explain our professions 🤣 shout out to the CRNA’s, y’all lowkey have it just as bad as we do!

By the end of the night we were both accountants because hey, nobody ever has to explain being an accountant right? 🤪

Congratulations to our very sweet friends who know how to throw a party, thanks for giving me a reason to play dress up with my forever plus one 💍❤️

𝐈 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝’𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐦𝐞.

Six years ago (to the date, yesterday) I received my acceptance into OT school. It was the happiest day of my life. I cried big ‘ol crocodile tears of joys.

They told me how much I’d love being an OT.
They told me how perfect I’d be in this profession.
They told me I’d make great money.
They told me everyone had debt.

But I wish someone would’ve been honest. I wish someone would’ve told me that my tears of excitement would become tears of stress when I opened up my student loan account after graduating and seeing 200k+ of debt now attached to my name.

I wish someone would’ve told me how interest on my loans would work.
I wish someone would’ve explained the cheaper options to become an OT.
I wish someone would’ve told me their actual salary, not what it said on google

Tuition is rising. MSOT programs are switching to OTD. The cheaper schools are accepting less applicants. The expensive schools are accepting more. We’re borrowing extra to cover living + unpaid clinicals. Salary is being cut.

Becoming an OT should not result in the financial hardship, stress, and burden that lasts for decades after we graduate. I’m listening to your stories, I thank you for sharing so openly, but honestly y’all, I’m at a loss. We got into this profession to help and to make a difference.

Something needs to change.

We deserve so much more than this.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫?

✨ Last Friday my alarm went off to get up and start my day off with pilates class 🙇🏾‍♀️

I turned over, exhausted, thinking about my long to-do list 🥴 I was behind on emails, DMs, content and projects.

I thought to myself, you know what? I’ll just skip class today so I can get this stuff done.

👉🏾 That’s when I remembered the good ol’ saying: you can’t pour from an empty cup.

I got up, threw on my TJ Maxx leggings (which are just as good as lulu’s 🗣 but I digress 🤣), grabbed my bag and went off to class - which kicked my butt 😅 (& abs & hamstrings & triceps) but in a good way, ya know?

Afterwards, I thought about how good I felt and was happy I had gotten up to go. I mean after all, self care is the best care, right? but then something clicked 👀

It wasn’t just about the class 🙅🏾‍♀️ Self care is about way more than just showing up for a fitness class. Or journaling. Or getting a pedicure. Or any of the other million self care activities out there.

💯 I realized that self care is less about the *act* and more about recognizing that I have to show up for myself FIRST before I can show up for others. Right then I decided…that is the message I’m carrying with me all throughout this year.

I turned to stories to ask you what message you’re carrying and phew 🥺🙌🏾 You all had so many good ones I just had to share.

Friends, 2022 is looking up 🙏🏾 and I hope these messages help carry you through as much as they’re gonna help me.
