Another vital skill needed by an RFA provider is the ability to perform and interpret thyroid ultrasounds. Did you know that not every doctor can do this?

Throughout the RFA procedure, Dr. Harding uses ultrasound to visualize the thyroid nodule. ⁠This allows him to know what areas to treat and what areas to avoid.

Many patients ask, "Why can't they just remove the thyroid nodule and leave the thyroid?"⁠
⁠
Unfortunately, this just can't be done. Attempting to remove just the nodule would damage the thyroid too much and would actually be dangerous for the patient. This is why half or all of the thyroid gland must be removed
⁠
But now, patients have an alternative to surgery called thyroid RFA! This allows patients to shrink their nodules while keeping their thyroid intact!⁠
