This little one came flying into this world. His mom is a hair dresser and she was finishing up a haircut at the salon just 45 minutes before his arrival. She had convinced herself that this wasn’t labor. As it turns out, it very much WAS labor! Women are INCREDIBLE! Welcome to your beautiful family, sweet boy!

BORN EN CAUL 😍
🫧 Babies who are born “en caul” when their amniotic sac does not break before they are born. It usually breaks at the moment of birth or shortly after.
🫧 En caul” births are said to happen 1 in every 80,000, but that number is much higher in out of hospital births. This is largely bevause in physiologic birth, artificially rupturing the membranes isn’t standard practice.
🫧 in many cultures, babies who are born en caul are seen as blessed.

This baby was born en caul in the water and it was beautiful. The mom pulled baby out of the water and brought her straight to her chest. As baby emerged from the water, we helped pull the sac off her head. As we emptied the birth pool, we found this large part of the sac that veiled this baby’s head at birth at the bottom of the pool.

As we walked to our gate at the airport at 4 in the morning, this display caught my eye, even through the bleary-eyed morning fog.

I guess now is a good time to announce that Tree of Life Midwifery was named Best of the Valley for the second year in a row 😍😭

I don’t pay too much to awards, but I care immensely about the quality of care that our clients receive. It was a really special moment to get to show my kiddos our name in this special edition of the magazine. Because that name - “Tree of Life Midwifery - isn’t just me. It’s them too. It’s the nights they don’t get tucked in by mom, it’s the many times someone else picks them up from school. It’s the “mommy has to leave now” right in the middle of dinner…again.

To me, this award means that I have the BEST support that allows me to be the very best I can. My husband, my children, my family, my friends. And especially to the incredible midwifery students who provided the care alongside me this year.

Cheers to all of you who made this happen🥂
