Hiji®Band is a patented, wearable bluetooth sensor held in an invisible pocket inside a stylish headband that detects and reports in real-time the severity of head impacts to monitor for risk of concussions. An estimated 1.6 million to 3.8 million sports- and recreation-related traumatic brain injuries occur each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And often, the injury is overlooked: A 2013 study from the National Academy of Sciences found that high school athletes had a “culture of resistance” to reporting concussions and following treatment plans. Founded in 2013 by Dr. Eric Luster, Movement Interactive is a tech start-up housed in the City of Mesa's Launchpoint start-up incubator program working to develop a wearable technology to detect and report Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in youth sports. This hardware sensor device will allow parents to receive real-time data via a smart-phone/tablet app regarding their childrens' on-field head-impact experiences, empowering awareness and safety.
