Before the holidays, our Class of 2023 Full-time interns rotated with one of our amazing 2021 graduates, at St. Vincent de Paul Main Campus. Our interns learned about the diverse services offered at SVDP and volunteered in the Dining Room, Urban Farm, and Family Resource Center. They also designed and taught a culturally-relevant nutrition education class to interested teens! As a bonus, they bumped into newly elected AZ governor Katie Hobbs.

One of our interns, Michelle Robles, had this to say:

"The altruism in this facility is unmatched. It's all about the small details that make reaching out for services a positive one:

🍽️ Cloth table covers, coloring pages, and volunteers acting as servers taking meal orders at the family dining center.

☕ Providing a warm cup of coffee and breakfast while asking houseless folks if they need a shower and clean clothes for the day.

😊 Smiles children give you at the popcorn station while handing out post-dinner snacks.

There are great ideas out there and people who want to do good in the world. This place just happens to have both. SVDP programming functions mainly with the help of volunteers, which is amazing! Us interns were so fortunate to take part in services offered at SVDP during our rotation."

- Properly included all relevant work and volunteer experience in the appropriate DICAS sections.
- Submitted three letters of recommendation with at least one academic and one work/professional source through DICAS.
- Submitted your personal statement and ensured that you have answered all DICAS- and MCDPHDI-specific questions. Please visit RDN2BE.com for a list of MCDPHDI-specific questions.
- Official college transcripts from all colleges and universities attended have been submitted to DICAS by the deadline.
- Included DPD Course List Form from your DPD Director in DICAS application.
- Included Signed Verification of Completion of Didactic Programs in Dietetics (DPD) Verification Statement in DICAS application.

MCDPHDI Full Time Track applications are due Tuesday, February 15th at 11:59 pm CST. Is your personal statement ready?

Be sure you are answering ALL the questions from MCDPHDI and DICAS in your personal statement.

The MCDPHDI-specific questions that must be answered are:
- Why are you applying to a public health-focused internship?
- What are your expectations from our program?
- Describe a project completed through your own initiative with minimal supervision.
- Do you speak, read, or write a language other than English and what is your level of fluency?

The DICAS-specific questions that must be answered can be found on DICAS in the instructions for completing your personal statement. They are:
- Why do you want to enter the dietetics profession?
- Discuss experiences that have helped you prepare for your career.
- What are your short-term and long-term goals?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses or areas needing improvement?
- What other information do you consider important for the selection decision?

MCDPHDI WIC Track applications are due this Saturday, January 15th at 11:59 pm CST.

Are you ready to submit your MCDPHDI WIC Track application? Be sure you have done all of the following:

- Official college transcripts from all colleges and universities attended have been mailed to DICAS by the deadline.

- Three letters of recommendation with at least one academic and one work/professional have been submitted through DICAS. Please ensure one letter of recommendation comes from your local WIC agency Leadership team.

- Included DPD Course List Form from your DPD Director in DICAS application.

- Included Signed Verification of Completion of Didactic Programs in Dietetics (DPD) Verification Statement in DICAS application.

- Submitted your personal statement. Please see RDN2BE.com for a list of questions that must be addressed within your personal statement.

- Included the Arizona WIC Program Declaration of Intent document in the supplemental section of DICAS.

- Paid the non-refundable Maricopa County application fee of $55.00 paid online through RDN2BE.com.

- Submitted your completed PAL Portfolio following instructions available on RDN2BE.com.

For our December Wednesday Workshop, we joined forces with the ASU dietetic interns for a visit to Agritopia Farm in Gilbert, AZ.

We spent the morning helping the farm team with sorting dates, mulching strawberries, planting onions, harvesting snap peas, and weeding. After a delicious lunch at the wonderful restaurants available on campus, the Agritopia Farm team gave us a tour around the farm and led a Q&A session.

It is our goal at MCDPHDI to provide perspective on our local food system to our dietetic interns and highlight the important role local farms play in this busy city we call home!
