Do you love what you do ?! ...
I rode my bike to friends house today, 1980’s style. Reminded me of when I was a kid, care free yet anticipating what was next ...
We went for a walk and talk. We discussed family, business, the Covid, the psychology of it all and how it impacts business. Then he asks,
“Do you love what you do? Do you love hand surgery?”
I paused - and quickly thought to myself
‘Do I?’
I responded, “I knew when it was taken away from me, I realized how much I enjoyed it”. (An executive order has stopped all elective surgery in the state for the time being)
I continued,
“I know when I look into a patient’s eyes, connect with them and explain what’s causing their pain and options to fix it - I feel passionate and fulfilled”. ...
I was quickly reminded of the previous day. I had a conversation with an anesthesia doctor I’ve known for 12 years. At one point in the conversation he commented,
“Josh, there are few people I know that have the capacity to be aware of and assimilate the depth and breadth of information you manage during surgery”.
The question was, “Do you love hand surgery?”
The answer, “It is what I was born to do.”
